Mickey Schuch
I don’t I don’t think so, sir. No, no.

00:03:10:14 – 00:03:29:05
Hank Strange (Host)
I no, absolutely not. So, you know, we’ve we’ve got some people out there that we that we have to thank for that. Right. For making this connection. I’m trying to remember right now, Lola will be smacking me upside the head if she was here. I want to say it was Seth that.

00:03:29:16 – 00:03:31:04
Mickey Schuch
It was Seth Landauer. Yes.

00:03:31:09 – 00:03:37:17
Hank Strange (Host)
Yes, absolutely. So big thanks to Seth for helping set setting this up. I appreciate it. Yes.

00:03:37:22 – 00:03:42:17
Mickey Schuch
And I think he found you because he said we had similar taste and I were.

00:03:43:14 – 00:03:45:02
Hank Strange (Host)
Oh, really? Are these the same? No.

00:03:45:21 – 00:03:48:06
Announcer
I don’t know. Being an idiot.

00:03:49:05 – 00:03:53:28
Hank Strange (Host)
Do you have a prescription in there? Because no one thinks I have. People think I wear this like I look smarter.

00:03:54:14 – 00:03:59:28
Mickey Schuch
I most definitely would not wear glasses if I didn’t have a prescription. That’s that is pretty douchey.

00:04:00:04 – 00:04:04:04
Announcer
Yeah. There’s people like, oh, I know. You’re just wearing glasses. No, I’m old.

00:04:04:28 – 00:04:08:20
Mickey Schuch
Yes. Yeah, it’s like it’s like wearing a back brace or something.

00:04:08:20 – 00:04:14:19
Announcer
To look cool. Basically, this is how I look at it. I mean, look at my arm sling. Oh.

00:04:15:04 – 00:04:15:26
Mickey Schuch
You’re wearing arm.

00:04:15:26 – 00:04:17:01
Announcer
Sling? Yeah.

00:04:17:11 – 00:04:23:17
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, I wouldn’t do it. I mean, I’m way sexier. Look, I know you just took your glasses. Look. Look at that level of sexy, like.

00:04:23:25 – 00:04:25:05
Mickey Schuch
Clark Kent to Superman.

00:04:25:09 – 00:04:46:05
Hank Strange (Host)
That’s. Yeah, that’s so, you know, I don’t I don’t do it for, you know, I don’t do it for the grams, as they say. So for the people out there, we do have an audience. If you guys have questions, please, you know, let me know your questions here. We’ll get into it. But, Mickey, just tell us about yourself and Carey Traynor, how you got into this whole thing.

00:04:47:03 – 00:04:55:23
Mickey Schuch
Sure. Male, exotic dance instructor. That’s kind of that calling finds you, I guess.

00:04:55:26 – 00:04:58:08
Hank Strange (Host)
OK, I thought you were like a corporate tourism thing.

00:04:58:14 – 00:05:01:17
Announcer
Wait, let me go. Tell me, go look at the scene that Lola said.

00:05:02:11 – 00:05:08:02
Mickey Schuch
I’m definitely not a male exotic dancer. I mean, you said jazz hands. I’m like, I can make some hay with this.

00:05:08:02 – 00:05:12:05
Hank Strange (Host)
I would never judge, man. I would never judge. Not to not not to your face.

00:05:13:04 – 00:05:14:25
Mickey Schuch
Fifth, fifth generation carpenter.

00:05:15:01 – 00:05:15:12
Hank Strange (Host)
OK.

00:05:16:01 – 00:05:29:25
Mickey Schuch
And self-employed since the late nineties. And about 15, 18 years ago or so, I had been involved in shooting the shooting sports hunting that type of stuff my whole life. I’m an Illinois resident.

00:05:30:19 – 00:05:32:11
Hank Strange (Host)
My apologies for that.

00:05:32:11 – 00:05:36:21
Mickey Schuch
My I, you know, people say that but the state also is.

00:05:38:14 – 00:05:41:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah we the whole state is not terrible. The whole state is not.

00:05:41:23 – 00:05:42:12
Announcer
So well.

00:05:42:12 – 00:06:02:08
Mickey Schuch
And even Chicago, which for all the bad parts of Chicago, we got some of the finest restaurants theaters, music venues. And I’m a I’m a country boy. I’m not a City fan, but the largest outdoor food festival in the world happens there. The largest free blues fest in the world happens there. Some of the largest concerts in the world happen there.

00:06:02:15 – 00:06:24:28
Mickey Schuch
So you’ve got, you know, a lot of cool stuff on the air and water show, the art museum, the field museum that, you know, there’s there are some good things that come from it. And our state, most of it is very idyllic farmland and crops and dairy and things of that nature. But your question, like where where did I come from?

00:06:25:11 – 00:06:57:12
Mickey Schuch
I got pissed that I lived in a state paid metric load of taxes into the state, and they forbid me from using a firearm for self-defense. A side note that maybe we talk about at some point as a young kid, a deer family friend was brutally murdered and not that this is some some topic that that I thought about daily.

00:06:57:13 – 00:07:25:26
Mickey Schuch
Well, I did in many ways, but as I got older, I had small children. It pissed me off that I couldn’t use a firearm to protect myself. I taught hunters safety. So our state DNR allowed me to teach kids how to use firearms like. And I just looked at it pragmatically like, what the hell? I’m not allowed to do this because our state legislature, which is one of the worst in the country as a as far as firearm rights go, or rather infringing.

00:07:26:22 – 00:07:27:20
Announcer
On guns.

00:07:30:14 – 00:08:05:17
Mickey Schuch
Stopped us from having any type of. So I became rabidly invested in changing that. I I ended up running and still preside over a not for profit called the Right to Carry Association. I ended up as the vice chairman of a political party one of the two. You can pick which one. It’s pretty easy to figure out. And I raised funds to help pro pro-constitution candidates pro freedom candidates get into office states, attorneys, sheriffs, people in the state House, state Senate, governors races.

00:08:05:17 – 00:08:28:15
Mickey Schuch
Right now I’m helping a gentleman in the state of Pennsylvania that’s running for their state Senate. I lend some support to people like a candidate that’s running in Harris County, Texas, which is the second or third largest sheriff’s office in the United States. If you’re down that way, vote for Joe Danna. He’s a good man. So I got rabidly involved in this quest to change our gun laws.

00:08:28:15 – 00:09:02:14
Mickey Schuch
And we the people did it, not me. I was one person in a group of many that that worked very hard to change those laws. And along that same trajectory of firearms rights and all the stuff that goes with that education, the politics. I also am a very avid firearms and combatives student. I’ve trained thousands of hours as a student in both open hand combative skills.

00:09:02:14 – 00:09:03:29
Mickey Schuch
I trained jujitsu and Muay Thai.

00:09:04:07 – 00:09:04:22
Announcer
And.

00:09:05:12 – 00:09:18:11
Mickey Schuch
Firearms so both of those things are, you know, some people golf, some people play tennis. I choke people and shoot guns. But and get and get choked.

00:09:18:15 – 00:09:20:09
Hank Strange (Host)
Well, yeah. I mean, you know, that’s.

00:09:20:26 – 00:09:24:19
Announcer
That’s the exotic dancer part of that scenario.

00:09:24:19 – 00:09:56:07
Hank Strange (Host)
But yeah, I definitely expect you to expect to see you on Joe Rogan. Listen, I grew up in New York City, man, so, you know, I get it. We’re not I actually grew up in Far Rockaway, New York, which is Queens. Queens, technically, it’s on the border of Queens and Long Island. So and I feel, you know, a lot the same way as you that it’s crazy that that people live anywhere in America or anywhere on the face of the planet and they can’t defend themselves yet.

00:09:56:16 – 00:10:22:04
Mickey Schuch
New York is a perfect example. Most of that state gorgeous. Most of that state has got awesome people that love family and community. And then you get the politics of a of a cesspool. And I’m not calling New York a cesspool. I’m calling the all the crime, the corruption. Yeah. The shit, that shit that goes with a big city.

00:10:22:13 – 00:10:34:09
Mickey Schuch
So what happens when you put people together? It happens in big churches. It happens in big community events. It just that’s what happens. And it it then directs the outcome for the state sucks yeah.

00:10:34:10 – 00:11:02:27
Hank Strange (Host)
Absolutely. You can’t I mean, you know, I was talking about this yesterday. It’s it’s so crazy that you grow up in a place that you cannot defend yourself. Now, there’s lots of places in the world that you can’t do that and definitely places in America that you can’t do that. And, you know, I remember growing up there as a kid and thinking, man, I can’t defend myself, you know, getting robbed, held at gunpoint, knifepoint and all that.

00:11:02:27 – 00:11:24:26
Hank Strange (Host)
And I was like, this is too damn bad. I can’t defend myself. So and regardless of where your politics are, you know, I think a lot of us, me included, when I was younger, I was more liberal. But that’s one thing that I recognized really, really quickly living in a place like that. And it’s it’s not necessarily the people who live there, but the politicians and how they run things.

00:11:25:04 – 00:11:29:18
Hank Strange (Host)
And I guess there is some kind of responsibility on the folks who keep voting for these.

00:11:29:18 – 00:12:06:02
Mickey Schuch
There’s 100% responsibility on those people. That’s how our republic is made to work, not to argue with you. But yeah, they don’t get no, they don’t get in. I know people think there’s election fraud. There is in some capacity. But I don’t think and I say this as a guy that has sat in county clerk’s offices watching each ballot of huge races be recounted, I literally spent several days in a row actually probably over a week watching the whole clerk’s office recount an entire election.

00:12:06:23 – 00:12:34:21
Mickey Schuch
So I, I got a basic understanding of the process. I’ve been involved in watching everything up to how the machines are put together, how software’s loaded, the chain of custody of paper ballots mail in ballots. Of course, every state and county around the nation can do things a little different based on their state board of elections. But it’s not as easy as people think to to do crooked stuff with elections.

00:12:34:21 – 00:13:05:05
Mickey Schuch
And people want to believe it’s crooked when the truth is people are just too frickin lazy. To go out and vote and get their neighbors to vote and get, get, get behind candidates is really what it is. It’s Ockham’s Razor, right we want to think the simple, most relevant possibility is insane. And instead, we try to create and fabricate huge stories around what we what we think.

00:13:05:13 – 00:13:12:13
Mickey Schuch
You know, it’s some crooked nefarious group of ninjas that are that are like blowing darts into election judges.

00:13:12:13 – 00:13:12:19
Announcer
And.

00:13:13:14 – 00:13:15:17
Mickey Schuch
You know, and in order for that to happen party.

00:13:15:28 – 00:13:16:08
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah.

00:13:16:16 – 00:13:43:21
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. And does that stuff happen? Of course nefarious things have always happened when humans are involved. But for for example, for somebody to sway an election doing things illegally, it requires that it would require a conspiracy and it would require 30, $40,000 a year employees at clerk’s offices to commit felonies and want to I mean they’re not protecting millions of dollars for themselves.

00:13:43:21 – 00:14:05:25
Mickey Schuch
They’re protecting $700 a week job. Right. You people don’t commit crazy felonies like that for something like that. Not not as widespread people might hear me and say, Oh, this guy’s full of shit. I’ve looked at it too much to believe that it’s for the most part, not just apathetic Americans that don’t go out and do the work.

00:14:06:12 – 00:14:29:10
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, you know what? I think that yeah, I think most people are good and don’t have nefarious motivations behind what they do. And I think in the end of the day, I wouldn’t lay all the problems that we have on America, like singularly on Democrats or liberals doorstep. You know, I think Republicans conservatives, you know, they’re doing a disservice to us as well.

00:14:29:18 – 00:14:47:06
Hank Strange (Host)
And we and we have to keep an eye on all of these guys because I think eventually the two party system that we have in America just leads to a lot of apathy, one from the voters. And then, you know, the folks who are actually doing that job, most of them not all of them, but most of them, it just it becomes a job.

00:14:47:06 – 00:14:55:14
Hank Strange (Host)
Right. And even if even though the politicians don’t on paper make that much money, there’s a lot of money involved in them. Being in politics.

00:14:56:05 – 00:14:56:18
Announcer
You know.

00:14:57:02 – 00:15:15:15
Mickey Schuch
Can be yeah, I wasn’t talking about politicians. I was talking people. I said, yeah, I’m talking about somebody that works at like a county clerk’s office that’s an employee of county government because that’s who would be required to create some of these illegal election activities. And it does happen, right?

00:15:15:15 – 00:15:26:08
Hank Strange (Host)
You said you said you were you said you were a carpenter, right? Yes. The multigenerational carpenter. So in Chicago, were you ever like in a Teamsters Union or something like that?

00:15:26:20 – 00:15:52:16
Mickey Schuch
Well, Teamsters is truckers, but yeah, I was in carpenters union up here. Yeah. For a number of years. And of course, when I went out on my own, I became a nonunion worker, which we call scabs up in these parts. Most of my family wasn’t union guys. I’m not I’m not pro-union, which will piss people off. For example, you look at what it cost to build roads in my state.

00:15:52:16 – 00:16:17:13
Mickey Schuch
We’ve got just like New York and other big areas, the cost of road per mile with union versus nonunion labor is is crazy. But that the union worker says, but I’m making good wages. Well, that is just push back on to the public. We choose what job we do and you can make a great living as both a union and nonunion worker.

00:16:17:23 – 00:16:17:28
Announcer
Hmm.

00:16:18:16 – 00:16:26:28
Mickey Schuch
There’s that price is oftentimes pushed back onto the consumer the cost to build a house that cost to hire a plumber. I mean, nothing’s for free.

00:16:27:09 – 00:16:35:15
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. I was a I was a Teamster for a while and it wasn’t you know, I don’t think the Teamsters as all truck drivers I know in New York know.

00:16:36:13 – 00:16:36:23
Announcer
Yeah.

00:16:37:04 – 00:17:01:05
Hank Strange (Host)
I was a Teamster when I was working at a hospital. And the the security I was a doorman. But the security and the department, which the doorman was inside of for 1.4, I think a little bit over a year, I actually became unionized under the Teamsters because they were there at the hospital doing construction. And I could tell you it was all run by the Mafia.

00:17:01:05 – 00:17:02:25
Hank Strange (Host)
So it was 100% corrupt.

00:17:03:28 – 00:17:40:12
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. I mean, I can’t comment on that. From the perspective of, I don’t know, all the ins and outs of what goes on here. But yeah, if you follow the money, just we’re talking about road, there’s been large construction companies that do like huge state or city contracts where people end up in prison all the time because somebody got a contract without it being open to a proper bidding process is or somebody knew somebody that’s starting to go away you know, the social media cameras, all the freedom of information stuff.

00:17:40:12 – 00:17:55:21
Mickey Schuch
It’s so hard now to do those kinds of things and that’s good you know, things things evolve. We, the people have evolved in demanding more openness in government. So I think it’s a lot harder nowadays to do those types of things.

00:17:55:26 – 00:17:56:05
Announcer
Mm hmm.

00:17:56:17 – 00:18:16:02
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. I don’t think we’re as corrupt as, you know, like I’ve lived in Nigeria, for example, in West Africa. I don’t think America is as corrupt as Nigeria is everywhere, this corruption, you know, and at the end of the day, there’s always the folks who are out there just trying to do for themselves. And there’s also always the people who are trying to do the right thing.

00:18:16:15 – 00:18:34:15
Hank Strange (Host)
You know, sometimes it gets out balance. Like when I look at the FBI, for example, which I always looked up to, you know, that like the FBI, that’s, you know, that’s the top of the top and probably the people that would be the most vulnerable, let’s say you put it that way. But what I’ve seen them do lately is crazy.

00:18:34:29 – 00:18:40:24
Hank Strange (Host)
The stuff that I’ve done that I’ve seen in the news, the things that have played out from those governors.

00:18:40:24 – 00:18:43:29
Announcer
Give me an example myself closer here.

00:18:43:29 – 00:18:45:14
Mickey Schuch
Give me an example. What are we talking about?

00:18:45:14 – 00:18:46:26
Announcer
Just so I know what we’re talking. Yeah.

00:18:46:26 – 00:19:14:12
Hank Strange (Host)
When we’re talking about like the FBI getting involved in politics and going after, you know, people in one political party giving shirts to things like that, that’s that’s what I would say. I’m not going to I’m not trying to say every FBI agent out there is horrible I don’t believe that. But I think that there was a time in America or even in the world, if you look at it that way, when you saw that kind of corruption coming from something like the FBI.

00:19:14:21 – 00:19:44:17
Hank Strange (Host)
Right. When you saw that, let’s say you saw the FBI getting involved in politics, you know, and going against or giving credibility t to news that’s coming out about one political party or the other. You know, so, for example, for example, if we see the FBI or other government agencies saying, oh, there’s nothing to the Hunter Biden story, and then later on you find out it’s true, you know, or you see them going after someone that’s running for president.

00:19:44:17 – 00:20:04:07
Hank Strange (Host)
In some cases, we saw that happen with Trump. It it really it takes a lot out of you to see that kind of thing going on or for example, we can talk about the ATF in that way. The ATF was very involved in gun running and allowing guns to go to Mexico. And what came out of that but not really anything.

00:20:04:25 – 00:20:37:10
Mickey Schuch
I look at all of these discussions as we the I call them we the people problems like government only exists. Every bit of government under under our republic only exists to protect our rights. Our natural rights are the government is there to protect them. Anything that government does outside of that purview is our problem. To either address, to limit, to speak up against or to change.

00:20:37:19 – 00:21:00:09
Mickey Schuch
And we can point out the corruption, we can point out the the failures or the issues. But until we’re willing to I call it carrying the load of liberty. Like I imagine that people picked this load up before us and they carried it. They moved this load on our behalf. They die, the load gets put down, somebody’s got to pick it up.

00:21:00:21 – 00:21:05:21
Mickey Schuch
And if we don’t, it just it doesn’t move itself, you know what I mean?

00:21:05:26 – 00:21:16:05
Hank Strange (Host)
Right. I think I understand that. Yeah, it’s not it’s not just that. It’s like the Constitution meant you know, it’s a piece of paper, right? We’re the ones that have to do something about it. Give it.

00:21:16:12 – 00:21:19:05
Mickey Schuch
Yeah, we got it. We we’re the might behind it, right?

00:21:19:05 – 00:21:40:14
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Yeah. You know, I agree with that. I agree with that. It’s us. And I think that’s what separates America in a lot of ways from other places. But one of the dangers we’re facing in the world now is everyone wants to hold world to be the same. And like you said, ultimately, the people that it Walther Arms has been making concealed carry handguns for over 90 years.

00:21:40:14 – 00:22:00:03
Hank Strange (Host)
Starting with the PPK today. Walther is based in the good old U.S. of A and still builds quality firearms like the P, Q and PDP for personal defense and competition so when you’re in the market, please consider Walther Arms. We wouldn’t be able to keep the Who Move My Freedom podcast going without the support of great companies like Walther Arms.

00:22:00:25 – 00:22:07:19
Hank Strange (Host)
I totally missed my own break. I didn’t even see it there. OK, yeah. Where was I?

00:22:10:11 – 00:22:15:27
Mickey Schuch
Yeah, you were saying different people. Different people want the whole whole world to think or be the same.

00:22:16:15 – 00:22:41:03
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, that’s kind of what we’re we’re going up against and the people here in America have to be the ones to me, regardless if you’re if you’re in the military, if you’re in the FBI or you’re just a person like you’re saying, you know, you were probably doing well enough doing what you were doing as a carpenter. And we’re the ones that have to say, OK, I’m going to I don’t this is wrong what’s happening, and I’m going to stand up for it and do something about it.

00:22:41:03 – 00:22:57:00
Hank Strange (Host)
It’s a it’s a thing that we face a lot as gun guys. You know, I got into the gun thing. I’ve always been into guns. And then I you know, I got into it doing YouTube stuff like, oh, I’m just going to share, you know, me living in Florida and actually being able to own these guns and shoot them.

00:22:57:10 – 00:23:16:03
Hank Strange (Host)
And then I realized, no, there’s a there’s a side of this that I have to talk to people. I have to talk to people who look just like me. I have to stand up, you know, for the rights and things like that that we have and say something about it. Otherwise, we’re not going to have it. And, you know, that’s kind of like how I wind up here very easily.

00:23:16:03 – 00:23:29:08
Hank Strange (Host)
I make that choice all the time because I think in this thing that we’re doing this and folks who don’t talk about the political side of it and people get mad at them, including me sometimes. And you know, this is just decisions that we have to make, right?

00:23:30:04 – 00:23:37:18
Mickey Schuch
What do you mean? Just so I’m clear. So you’re saying there’s other people in the gun space that don’t talk politics and you get angry yeah.

00:23:37:18 – 00:23:55:19
Hank Strange (Host)
Sometimes there are there’s there’s folks who are very popular out there, let’s say. And, you know, they do they have YouTube channels and they do stuff about guns, but they do just the cool stuff. Right. And I think we all sometimes get upset about that because we’re like, hey, how come they’re not talking about this thing happening in politics or whatever?

00:23:56:03 – 00:24:16:28
Hank Strange (Host)
And I kind of see it from both sides because I talk about politics. You know, the hammer of YouTube comes down on me pretty often because of that. You know, I’ve lost my YouTube channel. I’ve been, you know, severely shadow band and all kinds of stuff. So I see it. But, you know, every time that we make these decisions, we make it for ourselves.

00:24:17:07 – 00:24:20:27
Hank Strange (Host)
We can’t make it for other people. And we have to decide to do the right thing.

00:24:22:02 – 00:24:45:17
Mickey Schuch
I mean, isn’t that kind of analogous to your point of people around the world wanting everybody to be the same? Like, I see I see the world through this lens. So why doesn’t this guy or girl you know, the other part of that is there’s most most gun people, in my opinion, that that purport to be like a Second Amendment person.

00:24:45:17 – 00:25:09:09
Mickey Schuch
Or I don’t even know what phrase you want to choose, really are just hobbyists that find it fun or sexy or macho or something. To to use and play with guns. Most of them are not actual practitioners of martial arts. I don’t mean like karate. I mean the martial craft of fighting with weapons. Most of them don’t actually train with them in that fashion.

00:25:09:23 – 00:26:00:03
Mickey Schuch
And then the flip side, when you start to talk about the constitutionality of stuff, one of the biggest things I speak about outside of the actual firearm training is our history. And I challenge people to study our history, not because I look back with some concept or idea that like, oh, these perfect people had everything right, but on the contrary, oh, these people that were as flawed as you and I chase this perfect concept of liberty, this concept that regardless of their imperfect lives, regardless of their their flawed human condition, this perfect cause of liberty is what combined to create this place that we get to live in now that we get to call home

00:26:00:03 – 00:26:05:10
Mickey Schuch
and that we get to see and do and live as we see fit, rather.

00:26:06:03 – 00:26:06:14
Announcer
So.

00:26:07:04 – 00:26:22:04
Mickey Schuch
It’s it I think that that’s something that’s lacking from the perspective of hey, you like these guns? Let’s dig a little deeper and understand the what and the why, the how this place even exists.

00:26:22:10 – 00:26:39:03
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, but at to say, you know, so I think I think we’re kind of like on the same wavelength with that. But do you you know, when you look at the different folks doing what we do here, do you say, well, this guy should do this thing or do you just do what you need to do? What’s your philosophy on it?

00:26:39:15 – 00:27:11:12
Mickey Schuch
I could give to Flying Fox. Mm hmm. And I said it like that on purpose. What anybody else does, as long as you don’t hurt anybody. I do. I do take offense when I see people utilizing anything, be it religion, fear anything to sell somebody something. There’s a lot of guys that get out of the service and they use a bunch of patches on their sleeve to sell bullshit to young men.

00:27:12:02 – 00:27:40:18
Mickey Schuch
And I’m not talking about anybody specific. I’m not insulting anybody based on prior military service. What I’m talking about is guys will use what they’re what they’re capable of on the Internet and they sell things that they have no business selling improper training lies. And to me, it’s just like people selling snake oil on the TV at night, you know, buy this mop and it, it’ll do this amazing thing for you or buy these pills and your.

00:27:40:19 – 00:27:55:05
Mickey Schuch
Yeah, all your problems will go away. That’s the stuff that pisses me off. But do I think people need to do what I do? No. I mean, I’ve never walked in your shoes. You’ve never walked in mine. And I think what makes the world cool is we are we are different.

00:27:55:15 – 00:28:19:20
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. I think also the flip side of that, the reason why that works or why it happens the way it does I think in the gun community is a lot of people tend to fetishize what folks what some people do in the military. Right. Not everyone’s a special operator. Or anything like that. And people tend to look at it and just create all these fantasies around it.

00:28:19:27 – 00:28:45:09
Hank Strange (Host)
So it kind of becomes, I guess, like sports or I guess NASCAR. You know, back in the olden days, people would look at NASCAR and say, oh, I want to drive that car and then go to a dealership and buy something. And I think the gun world when it comes to the manufacturers and people trying to market, things very often go, oh, this guy was a Navy SEAL, so we need you know, or sometimes it’s not even it’s gotten so crazy nowadays.

00:28:45:14 – 00:29:07:03
Hank Strange (Host)
It’s you don’t even have to be a Navy SEAL for that to happen. You know, we see like those folks that the I forgot the name of the husband and wife, but the husband and wife that was in front of their house, you know, pointing empty guns at a crowd and all that kind of stuff. Then all of a sudden, those are the people that every single manufacturer will give every whatever gun, whatever they want to.

00:29:07:03 – 00:29:13:12
Hank Strange (Host)
And it’s just one of these kinds of things, I think, that happens. And even when I talk to the guys who were just there.

00:29:13:12 – 00:29:18:14
Mickey Schuch
Correct. And they weren’t pointing empty guns at a crowd. They were pointing guns at a mob.

00:29:18:22 – 00:29:23:18
Hank Strange (Host)
At a mob, yes. Yeah. I’m not I’m not against I’m I’m not against them defending.

00:29:23:18 – 00:29:23:29
Announcer
I just want to.

00:29:23:29 – 00:29:24:25
Mickey Schuch
Make sure that we’re honest.

00:29:25:01 – 00:29:44:07
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. I think there was some crazy stuff that happened in that whole thing. There was some really you know, I personally if I feel like I need to defend myself, I’m going to defend myself. But yeah, if you’re if you’re, you know, in front of an angry mob and you’re pointing guns and doing all the all the stuff that happened there to me was so crazy.

00:29:44:07 – 00:29:55:00
Hank Strange (Host)
I’m not saying I don’t I’m not on their side or don’t agree with the principle of of what they were trying to do. I’m just saying, like, how come these guys become heroes? You know?

00:29:55:00 – 00:29:57:29
Mickey Schuch
And I mean, there those are villains to a lot of people.

00:29:59:22 – 00:30:00:12
Announcer
Yeah. Yeah.

00:30:00:12 – 00:30:02:19
Mickey Schuch
I’m not taking pride. I don’t know.

00:30:03:02 – 00:30:14:22
Hank Strange (Host)
But that’s all that’s automatically that’s automatically what happens nowadays, you know? Yeah. That’s kind of like automatically the thing that happens nowadays, even within our gun community. Community we’re talking about.

00:30:16:01 – 00:30:34:25
Mickey Schuch
I think the gun community is just a microcosm of all the world, right? We’ve got we’ve got people that are like the sporty side of things. We got people that are into the hunting side of things. We’ve got people that are into the tactical side of things. You got gun bunny’s the tits and ass. You got like the muscly guys.

00:30:34:25 – 00:30:45:26
Mickey Schuch
You got people that do reviews, people that are like, you know, pretty serious about the stuff. You got dudes maybe that are like you. You got people that you’re I mean, yeah, I think you.

00:30:46:06 – 00:30:46:11
Announcer
There’s.

00:30:46:11 – 00:30:47:05
Hank Strange (Host)
Different facets.

00:30:47:23 – 00:31:09:20
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. Yeah, it’s huge cross section of stuff. And it’s, I think it’s easy. I don’t think anybody needs to view the world the same way I do. But I think that you should respect my right to view it as I, as I do as long as my rights. Not me hurting people, right. Or my, my view. And I think that’s where we get the the wheels fall off.

00:31:09:27 – 00:31:21:13
Mickey Schuch
Like Walther. I’ve worked with Walter for years. I see you got brought to you by Walter for years. I told people to buy Walter firearms for years. And people laughed at my wife shooting. My daughter shoots a wall.

00:31:21:23 – 00:31:24:29
Announcer
Yeah, I’ve got it. Mm hmm. Well, I.

00:31:24:29 – 00:31:29:04
Mickey Schuch
Mean, they they think about the old, old James Bond era.

00:31:29:04 – 00:31:31:05
Announcer
Oh, OK. Right, right. Yeah. Understand?

00:31:31:06 – 00:31:44:05
Mickey Schuch
Lock had taken over, and Walter creates a new marketing program. They create a strategy I’ve been to Walter’s factory, shot on the indoor range. They’re film videos with them. I know some of the guys. They’re great dudes.

00:31:44:05 – 00:31:44:29
Hank Strange (Host)
I’ve seen some of them.

00:31:45:04 – 00:31:54:11
Mickey Schuch
All of a sudden, the narrative changes thank you. The narrative changes slightly. Who’s a sexy guy shooting this gun? It’s the same fricking gun I.

00:31:54:11 – 00:31:55:18
Announcer
Told you to buy years.

00:31:55:18 – 00:31:55:28
Mickey Schuch
Ago.

00:31:55:28 – 00:31:58:05
Announcer
Right, right. But. But like.

00:31:58:09 – 00:32:12:20
Mickey Schuch
Like perception of things, right? And then what’s what’s old becomes new. I mean, I’m looking at kids walking around. We’re probably about the same age I saw a kid the other day. I thought it was 1988. He got out of a pickup truck. He had a mullet. Yes.

00:32:12:29 – 00:32:14:16
Announcer
T shirt on and.

00:32:14:22 – 00:32:16:17
Mickey Schuch
And he had like, like those.

00:32:17:00 – 00:32:20:03
Announcer
What are those. Don’t wash it. Oh the thick.

00:32:20:03 – 00:32:21:13
Hank Strange (Host)
They were the thick glasses. Yeah.

00:32:21:29 – 00:32:26:26
Mickey Schuch
That’s Paul. Everybody’s got them now like the, the big wrap around frickin you know what I’m talking about.

00:32:26:26 – 00:32:30:04
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Like, almost like skate like skiing kind of stuff. Like.

00:32:30:17 – 00:32:35:01
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. Like, you know, total like drive in Iraq. 1987.

00:32:35:01 – 00:32:35:19
Announcer
Frickin.

00:32:36:19 – 00:32:39:24
Mickey Schuch
Douche bag list edition left. You’re driving down the.

00:32:39:24 – 00:32:42:05
Announcer
Street and I’m like, what the hell year.

00:32:42:21 – 00:32:46:19
Mickey Schuch
You know, and like to this kid, this was like, you know, pretty sexy stuff.

00:32:47:04 – 00:32:47:14
Announcer
Yeah.

00:32:47:22 – 00:33:02:27
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. Which is which cool, man. Totally do your thing. But it seems like, like I shoot a Beretta. I’ve been shooting Beretta 90 twos for years and people used to make fun of me. Now I’m the boogie, you know. Cool, dude, that’s like.

00:33:03:09 – 00:33:04:13
Announcer
Mm hmm. Oh, Mickey.

00:33:04:17 – 00:33:05:22
Mickey Schuch
Mickey shoots operettas.

00:33:06:04 – 00:33:07:04
Hank Strange (Host)
Right? Yeah.

00:33:07:13 – 00:33:08:12
Mickey Schuch
I’ve been shooting those for.

00:33:08:12 – 00:33:08:23
Announcer
Years.

00:33:08:27 – 00:33:09:25
Hank Strange (Host)
Right? Yeah, I agree.

00:33:09:28 – 00:33:10:09
Mickey Schuch
Anyway.

00:33:10:17 – 00:33:27:23
Hank Strange (Host)
No, I agree with you. I think. I think there’s there’s a lot of stuff that like that that happens. You know, when I first got into the gun thing, my my first handgun that I got for myself was a Glock. But a lot of my friends, they were doing that. I haven’t been doing this my whole life. You know, I’m not I was never in the military or in law enforcement or anything.

00:33:27:23 – 00:33:32:04
Hank Strange (Host)
I’m just an artist, you know, I’m just a creative kind of person. But my friends that are just best.

00:33:33:02 – 00:33:34:15
Announcer
But yeah, yeah.

00:33:34:24 – 00:33:52:12
Hank Strange (Host)
That’s me trying to be as humble as possible. If you talk to Lola, you’ll find out that I’m not in real life, very humble. But that’s, you know, that. So that’s that’s really so to me. I had friends, though, that were competing and doing lots of things, and they always had wallflowers, and they’re like, you know, these are really ergonomic.

00:33:52:12 – 00:34:09:13
Hank Strange (Host)
And this is what they use to train and compete and stuff like that. And, you know, it’s weird. For a long time, I kind of was like, those people out there like, oh, you know, all you need is a Glock kind of a thing. But then I met these guys, and they never put any kind of pressure on me to do anything.

00:34:09:13 – 00:34:29:00
Hank Strange (Host)
And they, they actually sponsor the podcast here. They’ve done it for years. And they were like, Hey, man, you know, if you want to try something, try it out. They they never pushed me in any directions. And, you know, as I looked at it, I slowly started to develop something for it. I didn’t force myself into it or push myself into it.

00:34:29:05 – 00:34:56:01
Hank Strange (Host)
And there are a lot of great things about all kinds of different guns. I think that’s the beautiful part about being into guns. You know, in the beginning you might be all about Glocks. Then you go to warfare. Then one day you’re like, Oh, those Beretta is, you know, that you thought was just for the old dudes. Because that’s kind of the way that I felt about Baretta is when I started doing this and I met gun guys and they had, you know, these really nice metal eyes and stuff.

00:34:56:01 – 00:35:09:19
Hank Strange (Host)
I was like, Oh, this looks just like the old saw the old dudes out there. But as time goes on, you start to appreciate those things, you know, nowadays I even appreciate like a single action like you. And there was a time when I was like, Man, that’s like some cowboy stuff.

00:35:10:17 – 00:35:11:26
Mickey Schuch
I love me some cowboy.

00:35:12:25 – 00:35:35:06
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. As time goes on, you appreciate these things, and that’s truly what happens. I think that happens with cars or anything else that you get into. You know, we all have a specific mindset, I would think maybe twice about the person who says like, Oh, I only like this. And I’ve seen that kind of, you know, like I’ve seen gun guys at the range that only have fun.

00:35:36:07 – 00:35:36:20
Hank Strange (Host)
That’s it.

00:35:37:00 – 00:35:55:17
Mickey Schuch
Now, I think there’s something that you should add to that, though. What’s the goal? Not to talk about me, but when I look at anything I do, even this podcast, what’s the goal? Why am I here? Why does he have me on? But why? What’s my goal with the gun? I’ve got a friend. He’s a really high level USP competitive shooter.

00:35:57:00 – 00:36:15:15
Mickey Schuch
He’s got two pistols, one that he carries, one that he competes with, he’s got a shotgun in an air. That’s it. And he makes plenty of money that he can forward a pile of guns. And he always says to me like, I don’t understand why you have so many firearms his purpose with them, he has them to protect himself.

00:36:15:15 – 00:36:31:22
Mickey Schuch
He competes because he enjoys it, but more so to develop more efficient skills to deploy the gun for self rescue. So, like his purpose is to do some of the things we’re talking about. His is self-protection. So like, what’s the goal? I think it’s kind of important, too.

00:36:31:29 – 00:36:50:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. When you, you know, when you’re when when you’re doing your thing, when you’re training folks out there. Right. Do you approach this stuff from brand or do you approach each different person that that you meet? What’s your overall approach to this kind of stuff? Like whether it’s Walther Beretta Glock.

00:36:51:06 – 00:37:17:22
Mickey Schuch
I could care less as long as the gun is safe, meaning it’s not something that you piece together in your garage and it doesn’t blow up or fall apart. And it’s one thing I find because we train hundreds and now thousands of people I’m exposed to millions of rounds of ammunition that’s gone off around me and thousands and thousands of firearms.

00:37:18:19 – 00:37:45:00
Mickey Schuch
The amount of times I’ve seen slides just blast off the end of a gun. Squibs, optics fall off, sites fall off, take down, pins fall off. You know, just all of that kind of stuff. You start to see like, OK, which guns tend to hold the better together better. OK, I can kind of like paint a picture in my head which optics tend to fall apart more or less.

00:37:45:00 – 00:38:16:26
Mickey Schuch
And I can tell you with that, without a doubt, Glocks break less than any other gun. I break Glocks all the time. Over the years. I break mag release springs because I practice mag changes. I, I broke recoil springs, I broke strikers. I mean, things break and people freak out. Oh, that gun’s a piece of crap. A lot of these firearms are not meant to be shot, and some people shoot them or to be manipulated as we manipulate them.

00:38:17:03 – 00:38:44:03
Mickey Schuch
I broke tons of cigars and it doesn’t make the sig a bad thing. I break my truck all the time. I beat the shit out of my truck. I expect it to break, but then I maintain it and replace the parts. So I want safe stuff. Safe again. As in meaning. It’s like a well-built thing. And nowadays, I mean, even the budget grade stuff is pretty durable compared to 1911 era stuff.

00:38:44:03 – 00:39:06:25
Mickey Schuch
It was expected that it took some work to make the gun function on the regular. It’s guns operate with nauseating reliability. Guns are like air travel. You don’t expect to die when you get in an airplane to go to Disney World, you expect to get there, right? I mean, it’s like otherwise you wouldn’t do it. And guns have kind of become like air travel.

00:39:06:25 – 00:39:07:27
Mickey Schuch
So I don’t know that answers your.

00:39:07:27 – 00:39:22:17
Hank Strange (Host)
Question, right? So if you if you’re giving a class, are you sick? Because I know there are some trainers that I’ve spoken with and some of the guys are like friends you can’t come to a rifle class with an air you built. They want that to be, you know.

00:39:22:29 – 00:39:46:22
Mickey Schuch
No, I don’t care about that. I don’t care about that. What I just what I mean by that is something that happens. Guys will show up with some Gucci tout thing that’s got usually this happens because it look cool or the guy at the gun store sold them a bunch of stuff. Maybe it’s got a huge oversize mag release, a big oversize slide lock lever crap like that.

00:39:46:22 – 00:40:12:27
Mickey Schuch
And then they never shot it. Soon they actually start shooting it and they’re dumping mags to the ground errantly because their grip is impacting the, you know, impacting that the slide lock lever or the, the mag release, rather shitty holster, stuff like that. And what you find a guy that’s got guys that build a ours all the time that come to class, but it’s when the dude doesn’t know what he’s doing builds it shows up.

00:40:12:27 – 00:40:25:02
Mickey Schuch
Then my time in my other students time becomes his troubleshooting and I’ll tell out like screw around with it a little bit. But hey, all these people paid to be here, we can’t screw around.

00:40:25:08 – 00:40:37:26
Hank Strange (Host)
You take your time away from so so like do you guys have a policy about that and do people have to bring a backup gun or if that happens, you’re like OK, here, here’s a gun that we have. Use this or you kick them out. How’s that work?

00:40:37:26 – 00:40:59:05
Mickey Schuch
I’m pretty cool about that. I mean, let’s be honest, not everybody can afford to have two, three, four guns. I suggest have a backup gun, have four to five magazines for each, have all of that gear with you because if something breaks, it might be quicker just to go swap guns. But not everybody can afford that, especially younger dudes or somebody on a fixed income.

00:40:59:05 – 00:41:29:00
Mickey Schuch
And I can assume or expect people to do that. I show up with a box of guns one. So that one thing about guns, the reason I like the Walters to talk about them again, you said ergonomic. For some reason, I find that they fit women’s hands very well the way that they make those long slide like levers that are Amby like on the p q, the serrations all because girls hands in guys, but girls hands especially, they can manipulate them.

00:41:29:00 – 00:41:44:07
Mickey Schuch
Well, what I find is guys send their wife to my class as a good example. And the girl goes, Yeah, he sent me with this bag of stuff and it’s, it’s a little single stack now. Something like a car or.

00:41:45:16 – 00:41:45:17
Announcer
A.

00:41:46:11 – 00:41:59:06
Mickey Schuch
Shield, you know, something that requires a man or a strong person’s grip that the woman can’t action the slide, she can’t push the slide, lock, lever up wall to lock the slide back.

00:41:59:15 – 00:42:29:12
Hank Strange (Host)
We wouldn’t be able to keep the Who move my Freedom podcast going without the support of great companies like High Point Firearms and full forge gear, bags and gear for everyday life. Did you know Highpoint is an American family owned and operated company located in Ohio? With over 30 years of manufacturing experience, High is proud to be the home of the working man’s gun and your source for affordable handguns and carbines with a lifetime warranty.

00:42:29:12 – 00:42:35:21
Hank Strange (Host)
So when you’re in the market, please consider hype man. I am so I’m getting so into this conversation.

00:42:35:29 – 00:42:48:01
Announcer
I’m not saying my oh yeah, yeah I do suck. I do. It’s like mad. It’s right there to it. I’m not seeing it yeah. You’re so you’re you. I don’t know.

00:42:48:08 – 00:43:01:17
Hank Strange (Host)
I’m not going to get any better. The more I think about it, the worse I’m going to be. But yeah. So you’re saying that husbands which I know it happens so that so you’re saying that they’re sending their wife with what it is they want to carry, right? Or they want her.

00:43:01:18 – 00:43:22:01
Mickey Schuch
To be the guy? You know, we just we often times think like, little hands, little gun. I’m just a for example, you know, like, I don’t know how many women I’ve met over the years that are that show up with some tiny gun, a little J frame revolver or a little single stack micro gun. That’s the last thing a new shooter should be using.

00:43:22:12 – 00:43:37:27
Mickey Schuch
I got a joke. I am always told the only thing that you should ask the guy at the gun counter like a guy at a gun store, the only thing you should ask them is how much does it cost? Never ask those and I know there’s people that are listening and go, hey, fuck you. I work at a gun store and I know what I’m talking about.

00:43:38:07 – 00:43:42:26
Mickey Schuch
But by and large, a lot of these guys, they don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

00:43:42:27 – 00:43:46:26
Hank Strange (Host)
Oh, so you’re saying. You’re saying, yeah, don’t take advice. You’re just saying I want the same.

00:43:46:28 – 00:43:48:14
Mickey Schuch
Don’t take advice from that.

00:43:48:29 – 00:43:49:26
Hank Strange (Host)
From them, OK?

00:43:50:16 – 00:44:13:07
Mickey Schuch
And of course, there are many people that work at gun stores that do know what they’re talking about, but there are tons that don’t. And that is how, for example, here’s a great argument somebody calls me, hey, I got a I would like to find out if I am ready or skilled enough to come to your course. And I’ll say, OK, just, you know, talk to me a little bit about yourself.

00:44:13:14 – 00:44:32:12
Mickey Schuch
And they’ll go, well, you know, I’m very familiar with guns. I own a lot of them, and that is meaningless. I could have a room full of guitars and no, nothing for music. I could have a room full of art easels and brushes and know nothing about painting. I could have a piano and know nothing. You know what?

00:44:32:12 – 00:45:05:09
Mickey Schuch
I’m saying, right? So we connect this concept of ownership to knowledge was bullshit. We got a pile of books behind me. If I don’t read them, I don’t know what’s in them. And so people often somehow connect ownership because I purchased this thing. Thus, I know how to use it. Talk to any policeman in America that does crash scene investigations and you will find dudes that bought Corvettes, Mustangs, Porsche, whatever that thought.

00:45:05:09 – 00:45:08:14
Mickey Schuch
They knew a thing or two about driving and they don’t.

00:45:08:18 – 00:45:12:00
Announcer
So yeah, played grand Theft Auto.

00:45:12:24 – 00:45:15:01
Mickey Schuch
Yeah, but some sales guys sold them.

00:45:15:02 – 00:45:15:09
Announcer
That.

00:45:15:09 – 00:45:35:13
Mickey Schuch
Car, right? Yeah. I actually got a buddy that works for a dealership in Ohio that makes it used to be 39,000, probably a little more now. But it just a few years ago for like $39,000 you could get a 750 horsepower, five speed or six speed supercharged Mustang. It was like the base model Mustang that they set up.

00:45:35:14 – 00:45:56:13
Mickey Schuch
Huge blower for 40 grand. Yeah, it was like the base model Mustang that they with the five liter that they put a fat blower on. I mean it was a, it was like unless you were a somebody that knew how to drive this car was going to kill you. And he’d tell me people come in two weeks later the thing had come in on a frickin.

00:45:56:14 – 00:45:57:05
Announcer
Smash that.

00:45:57:08 – 00:45:58:28
Mickey Schuch
Just wrapped around something.

00:45:58:28 – 00:46:01:08
Announcer
That’s how you learn yeah.

00:46:01:08 – 00:46:01:20
Mickey Schuch
Right.

00:46:01:27 – 00:46:07:08
Hank Strange (Host)
Well, this race car drivers that are really awesome on tracks and they’re not very good at driving on the streets.

00:46:07:23 – 00:46:08:02
Announcer
I mean.

00:46:08:12 – 00:46:38:04
Mickey Schuch
Much different, different tires, right? Different, different track surfaces. But where I’m going with that is so your question was like, what are my prerequisites or thoughts on like the gun? Everybody’s hands different, everybody’s grip pressure or ability to create grip pressure is different. The friction coefficient of our skin is different. Of course, hands size, our visions different are the strength of our arms.

00:46:38:04 – 00:47:09:13
Mickey Schuch
Our elbows are wrists are needs. You know, if if if I knew I needed a gun, I’m going to grab my 308 air in a whole bag of magazines if I know I need a gun. Right. So we have this concept like this is good enough. So it’s a trade off, right? Concealed ability comfort, accessibility on our clothing, our ability to hold it and actually shoot it, our ability to manipulate it.

00:47:09:13 – 00:47:35:20
Mickey Schuch
Mags slide, lock to keep the gun up and running. So I think we got to find a firearm that works well for us. People like Glock, Walther Smith and Wesson Sig, all these companies have all based their shit off of men like Browning, what he did years ago in these guns, while there’s been slight changes those are really still pretty much what guys like Browning came up with years ago.

00:47:36:21 – 00:47:42:12
Mickey Schuch
We haven’t yet come up with something that’s much better. It’s just what are we really changing? Some ergonomic stuff.

00:47:42:12 – 00:47:43:14
Hank Strange (Host)
That materials look.

00:47:43:29 – 00:47:49:26
Mickey Schuch
Yeah, yeah. What? It looks like we’re not it’s not like it’s something like you point your fist and bullets are coming out of.

00:47:50:00 – 00:47:54:16
Announcer
Range from fat ass. Yeah. To laser beams.

00:47:54:22 – 00:48:14:24
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, to an extent. So my thing. OK, so I don’t know if this is so are you saying for example, if you’re going to do a training class and you carry, you know, like, what is this? I think I have this is lawless PE 365 here right let’s say if she carries this and she goes to a training class, do you take this or no go with a full size gun.

00:48:14:24 – 00:48:16:11
Hank Strange (Host)
I’m just trying to clarify here.

00:48:16:18 – 00:48:38:17
Mickey Schuch
I think that’s contextual. I think if that’s let’s let’s take a look at Lola. Let’s suggest Lola’s never shot a pistol or Lola’s almost shot a pistol. Cool name, by the way. Only shot a pistol ten times. I’d probably suggest that we find the largest pistol that Lola can comfortably hold. Meaning I’m not going to go get her a ten millimeter Glock.

00:48:38:17 – 00:48:57:24
Mickey Schuch
20 that’s got a grip. You know, this big, right? But maybe the maybe the PCU something that’s the bigger the better. But still, within the scope of her hand structure. So that we can teach her the mechanics of marksmanship and using a holster. If she’s got all that down, I tell people, train with whatever you want to.

00:48:58:07 – 00:48:58:15
Announcer
OK?

00:48:59:11 – 00:49:29:26
Mickey Schuch
But I also tell them that for me, I train with the gun that I think I’m going to have with me if I’m in a fight, which for me is going to be the gun that’s sitting right next to me right here. I put thousands of rounds through these these little six little Glock, 1448, 43 axes I put thousands of rounds through bigger guns, but I’ve gone to classes with guys like Gabe White, Pat McNamara, Scott, Jed Wolinski, you name it.

00:49:29:26 – 00:49:46:23
Mickey Schuch
I’ve showed up with my little inside the waistband rig and a pile of magazines, and guys are running big guns with cops on them and I’ll keep up with most of them. You know, I might be off a second or two, which is a big deal when you’re running a, you know, second or two is a long time.

00:49:46:24 – 00:49:59:19
Mickey Schuch
And of course, a fire but I’ll take a second or two running a little micro compact pistol versus somebody shooting some tuned up compt and dotted gun, you know, I’ll do that.

00:49:59:27 – 00:50:00:26
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, yeah.

00:50:01:07 – 00:50:21:22
Mickey Schuch
What’s the goal? What’s the goal? Yeah. I don’t want to get good shooting a gun that’s at home. I want to get good at the gun. With the gun that’s on me. And the thing that I try to drill home with people imagine horribly. You’re in that grocery store in Buffalo, New York, New York. Imagine you’re in that church in Texas.

00:50:21:27 – 00:50:49:22
Mickey Schuch
Imagine you’re in that school in Texas. Imagine you’re in that town square in Colorado. You can just think of the situation. Imagine you’re there and you know the facts of the story, whatever it might be. Paint the picture of one of these mass murders is the gun that you have on you. Something that you think that you could use to protect life and liberty of yourself or others, if that’s what you choose to do.

00:50:50:00 – 00:51:28:04
Mickey Schuch
Are you capable of it now? Just dissecting the parameters of a known incident. And most people say no. So that’s a clue. I think personal I think you should be able to take the gun that’s on you and own anything that’s 25 yards in in by anything. I think something like the size of a dessert plate, like a six inch circle, I should be able to draw and put rounds on something 25 yards away at will with that gun and be conscious of a clear and clean sight picture to beyond and around the target.

00:51:28:10 – 00:51:55:16
Mickey Schuch
I should be able to do that regardless of fatigue. I should be able to do that regardless of light conditions meaning there is enough light to be able to identify a target in my sights so those are kind of some parameters that I think should drive not only what we’re training with, but the mindset behind it, because I don’t carry this thing to have a couple of pounds of metal in my pants for no reason, right?

00:51:57:03 – 00:51:58:13
Announcer
Yeah. I mean, yeah.

00:51:58:13 – 00:51:59:19
Mickey Schuch
You want metal in your pants.

00:52:00:16 – 00:52:01:01
Announcer
For me to.

00:52:01:08 – 00:52:04:21
Hank Strange (Host)
Depending on your situation. But that’s where sidetracking.

00:52:05:05 – 00:52:06:24
Mickey Schuch
You know? Are you talking porno.

00:52:06:24 – 00:52:11:09
Announcer
Stuff right now? Yeah, exactly. You might want to have some heavy metal all right.

00:52:11:10 – 00:52:30:22
Hank Strange (Host)
So what? You might want to have some heavy metal. And I do agree with you. Let me give some shout outs. Ham radio pen pal is all shouting you all he says at Mickey Shook. What’s up, buddy? So I don’t know if you know who else. I don’t yeah. And are you into ham radio at all that you ham radio?

00:52:30:23 – 00:52:48:07
Mickey Schuch
You know, I grew up with a very dear family friend. What is his what is his radio signal? Whiskey, Sierra Kilo Niner, I believe. OK, and I loved I loved him teaching me stuff on a set up. I’m not licensed. So no, I’m never on the I’m not on the radio.

00:52:48:13 – 00:52:51:29
Announcer
Yeah, OK. Have not at all.

00:52:52:27 – 00:52:54:23
Hank Strange (Host)
He don’t own a bow fan anywhere.

00:52:55:10 – 00:52:57:25
Announcer
I got a minnow, OK?

00:52:58:15 – 00:53:04:22
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Lola and I recently I think it was in January or something like that. Got into it and got licensed.

00:53:04:22 – 00:53:06:15
Mickey Schuch
So cool. Good for you.

00:53:06:16 – 00:53:06:23
Announcer
Yeah.

00:53:07:23 – 00:53:11:04
Hank Strange (Host)
Oh, he says Mickey knows me as Paul Garber so.

00:53:11:12 – 00:53:12:28
Mickey Schuch
Hey, Paul. What’s happenin, brother?

00:53:14:01 – 00:53:16:12
Announcer
There you go. You know it. Yeah, I do know Paul.

00:53:16:18 – 00:53:18:10
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. And then Lola.

00:53:18:10 – 00:53:22:01
Mickey Schuch
Actually sent me a message today. Saying that you are a cool dude.

00:53:22:14 – 00:53:28:02
Hank Strange (Host)
Oh, look at that. OK, so he obviously doesn’t know me. It is. It know me so well.

00:53:28:04 – 00:53:31:27
Mickey Schuch
Clearly he follows your work. Yeah, artistic impression that.

00:53:31:27 – 00:53:55:25
Hank Strange (Host)
Well, Lola, not. We got into the ham radio world, man, which has been really cool. You know, I think that’s a thought. One of the reasons why I’m doing this is to be prepared for things. And I think communications is a part of that. So obviously, you can’t get into everything. But I met some of the guys that are in the ham radio world, and, you know, there’s a lot of stuff on YouTube, so we we followed what they did on YouTube, and we got prepared.

00:53:55:25 – 00:54:16:10
Hank Strange (Host)
We went to, I think it was called Ham Kitchen in Orlando. And we actually got license and everything. And I owned some stuff. So and I’m sure I’m sure he’s found me through those dudes. Lola was asking some questions back here that she’s been texting me about that I’m ignoring that I’m ignoring her question. So I’m just going to go to her.

00:54:16:23 – 00:54:23:28
Hank Strange (Host)
He’s he let’s see where she’s at. He wants to she wants to know she wants to know why you started.

00:54:23:28 – 00:54:47:25
Mickey Schuch
Carey Trainor it’s a good question. I mean, that’s a pretty broad one of the fastest, fastest answer. Quickest answer would be I felt I had something to add in this space. As soon as I don’t have something to add in this space, I will step out of it. I don’t I don’t fuck around. I’m not here. I can make more money doing a lot of other things.

00:54:47:25 – 00:54:54:02
Mickey Schuch
I do own gunfighter oil. I invest a ton of energy in this because I take it very seriously.

00:54:55:04 – 00:54:57:17
Hank Strange (Host)
OK, I’ve heard of gunfighter oil. You just said.

00:54:58:16 – 00:54:59:26
Announcer
Correct. I chuckle.

00:54:59:27 – 00:55:22:20
Mickey Schuch
It’s our brand, OK? I mean, I got stuff like that I can do. I could I am very passionate. My buddy Paul Sharp, who I’ve known for many years, beloved friend and mentor, as well as somebody who helps us with our 12 event former jujitsu coach, great guy. Paul likes to say we make good people better at being dangerous.

00:55:23:01 – 00:55:57:11
Mickey Schuch
And there’s a reason for that. It’s not just to stop bad guys. This quest, if you look at any true martial artist, I think Bruce Lee was probably a good example in modern times. Eventually that quest turns into art, the expression of art. The Samurai did haiku. They they painted, they did sculptures, right? People eventually arrive at this point where they find as much beauty and life as possible because they understand humans capabilities of destroying each other.

00:55:57:16 – 00:55:57:26
Hank Strange (Host)
Right.

00:55:58:03 – 00:56:20:28
Mickey Schuch
I’m not I’m not a soldier. I’m not some bad ass. I’m a regular old dude, but I’ve spent the better part of my adult life just discussing, contemplating these topics. Not because I find some fascination in it because but rather I have this quest to live a long, full life. I don’t feel I fear death, but I want to be around as long as possible.

00:56:20:28 – 00:56:44:00
Mickey Schuch
I enjoy my kids. I’ve got a granddaughter, and I think that’s for most people what they’re looking for. So we couple to the firearms training portion of what we do we couple to that kind of a philosophy and a mindset of living a long, full life, live healthy, workout, eat well, find joy in people and and things around you.

00:56:44:20 – 00:57:08:27
Mickey Schuch
Some people that hate the way I approach this, I get a lot of people that say, Would you just shut the hell up? I don’t want to hear you. You sound like an arrogant prick. Cool, man. I’m not for you. But on the flip side, I have and it’s not me. That’s the message that we pass on is stuff that’s old this time, but we’ll get folks, I can’t tell you how many people have lost £50 after coming to our courses.

00:57:08:27 – 00:57:31:14
Mickey Schuch
And it’s not, oh, you know, they’re doing what I’m saying. It’s that they they were exposed to good people, and they said, You know what? I can do this. I can do this because these other people are doing this. I’m worth it. My life is valuable. I’m, I’m, I’m going to do something different. My good buddy, William April always said, if you do what you always done, you’re going to get what you always got.

00:57:31:14 – 00:58:03:06
Mickey Schuch
And in some ways, Kerry trainer is a manifestation of me doing something different to get something different out of life. So when you see me talk about something maybe heavy online, maybe a personal struggle or some path that I’m going down, I’m not talking about it because I’m saying I’ve figured this thing out. You should, too. I’m saying I’m sure this is a struggle that you’ve seen, too.

00:58:04:02 – 00:58:16:22
Mickey Schuch
Let’s talk about it or I’m here to talk about it or I understand we’re all in the same boat. And that’s that’s kind of the synopsis. Let’s live a long, full life together.

00:58:17:05 – 00:58:36:25
Hank Strange (Host)
Right? Absolutely. I think, you know, people people should be well-rounded, shouldn’t just be, you know, single faceted kind of a thing. And you’re not the first person that I’ve heard say that self-defense is is a martial arts. My friend Reid Hendricks, he he was the first person I think that I’ve heard say that. And I agree with it.

00:58:36:25 – 00:58:38:08
Hank Strange (Host)
Right. It’s it’s some people.

00:58:38:08 – 00:58:41:25
Mickey Schuch
Have been talking about it for thousands of years. Yeah, I know. Yeah.

00:58:42:03 – 00:58:42:15
Announcer
Yeah.

00:58:42:24 – 00:58:44:20
Hank Strange (Host)
This is all part of the whole thing. Mm hmm.

00:58:45:11 – 00:58:45:20
Mickey Schuch
Mm hmm.

00:58:46:02 – 00:58:46:12
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah.

00:58:46:12 – 00:58:47:02
Announcer
So, well, I.

00:58:47:06 – 00:58:50:05
Mickey Schuch
I go ahead. I try to talk it over you I’m sorry.

00:58:50:07 – 00:59:08:00
Hank Strange (Host)
No, no, no. You’re good. I was just going to say, I just think we need to be balanced. You know, you don’t have to be anyone who goes all the way in one direction, and they’re only into that. So like, I think being fit, being healthy is a great thing. If that’s the only thing that you’re doing, you know, you’re not going to live a good life like you were saying, right?

00:59:08:00 – 00:59:16:12
Hank Strange (Host)
You need to balance everything that you do. So, and I think that’s when you bring up the samurai. That’s what I think about, right? You know, and.

00:59:16:22 – 00:59:22:04
Mickey Schuch
I’m sure there were some evil last samurai, right? I just that one that that one advanced it, right?

00:59:22:12 – 00:59:38:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. I mean, these were these dudes were literally the enforcers, man. They were walking around able to, like, slice off heads and stuff like that, you know? But yeah, you should you should you should endeavor to be balanced if you look I mean, they’re not that much different from knights. Let’s say that you find.

00:59:38:23 – 00:59:39:08
Announcer
In your which.

00:59:39:17 – 00:59:54:20
Mickey Schuch
Which were, which were hired thugs. They’re not like like the movies tell us like Damsels in Distress, as most of them were more like the sheriff of Nottingham. Most of them were just iron fisted bastards.

00:59:55:00 – 00:59:56:01
Announcer
Mm hmm. Yeah.

00:59:56:20 – 01:00:16:25
Hank Strange (Host)
That’s a lot of it’s a lot of what’s going on. And then as I don’t know, I don’t know where to put it. I think in in civilization as we move forward here, you know, we’re just we’re living in a world today because of all the things, right? Because of the machines and technology and things like things like that that we have around us.

01:00:17:02 – 01:00:37:27
Hank Strange (Host)
We could either choose to be very lazy or, you know, add layers to our lives and who we are and all of us in different ways, you know, so sometimes, you know, I would say there might be this thing that I’m very versed in, but this other thing here, I’m I’m not so good in. But you you strive to make yourself better right on.

01:00:38:17 – 01:00:38:25
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah.

01:00:39:09 – 01:01:06:07
Mickey Schuch
What’s the goal? That’s how I start everything. What’s the goal? And I think it’s really easy to go off on a tangent for example, I’m going to become a ham radio specialist, a a self-sustained person that lives in the woods. And then keeps bees and raises hogs and knows how to crack my own wheat and do sutures on my kids foot and all of these things, because I think the world’s going to end.

01:01:06:14 – 01:01:31:06
Mickey Schuch
So now the focus becomes the world’s going to end and I’m going to live on. Or you could say I’m alive, I’m well. It’s a new day. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping. There is always some evil shit going on in the world. But I’m going to spend the trajectory of my life doing good, being good and living well and and in that, I’m also going to learn some skills that should calamity or violence come my way, I will prevail.

01:01:31:13 – 01:01:38:16
Mickey Schuch
That’s kind of my mindset. I’m not I don’t live in fear of like the end of the world or anything like that.

01:01:39:02 – 01:01:40:01
Announcer
Mhm. Yeah.

01:01:40:11 – 01:01:41:18
Mickey Schuch
I think that’s nonsense.

01:01:42:17 – 01:01:44:08
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. I mean.

01:01:44:17 – 01:01:46:17
Mickey Schuch
48 seconds by the way. 46.

01:01:46:17 – 01:01:56:01
Hank Strange (Host)
Seconds. Look at that man. You’re, you’re getting even better than me. Lola is surprised by the £50 thing. So in that 30 seconds.

01:01:56:26 – 01:02:02:23
Announcer
She’s like, How long are these glasses? Why are you not at the class? Not at the class.

01:02:03:02 – 01:02:09:23
Mickey Schuch
You know, like I’ve met them and then when you take your next break in 30 seconds I’m going to Sprint and come back with something to show you, OK?

01:02:09:23 – 01:02:14:05
Hank Strange (Host)
All right. Cool. Yeah. Lola not at one time. Lola like OK, if I can lose.

01:02:14:05 – 01:02:15:04
Announcer
£50.

01:02:15:21 – 01:02:23:25
Hank Strange (Host)
At this one class in three days, there’s someone I think ham radio pen power says the class is three days. Yeah, if you, if you lose £50 in three days.

01:02:23:27 – 01:02:27:24
Mickey Schuch
I was pretty sure, I was pretty sure that that’s not how I articulated it. So I.

01:02:28:02 – 01:02:28:11
Announcer
Folks.

01:02:28:11 – 01:02:29:08
Mickey Schuch
Wanted to hear it.

01:02:29:08 – 01:02:53:24
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, that’s right. We’ll be right back here in a second with ArmsList. You can show up the extensive list of local and nationwide firearms classified now with more confidence because of their built in firewall for only 699 a month for personal use or $30 a month for business vendors. So when you’re in the market, please consider ArmsList. We wouldn’t be able to keep the who move my freedom podcast going without the support of great companies.

01:02:53:24 – 01:03:14:08
Hank Strange (Host)
Like ArmsList yeah. That’s even one of the things I think about losing weight to me. I don’t know how things work differently for other people. I don’t want to get all crazy. Only about losing weight. I think if I was all about, let’s say, losing weight and losing £50, I could definitely do it without a doubt. OK, I can definitely do that.

01:03:14:08 – 01:03:29:28
Hank Strange (Host)
One thing, if I drop everything else. So I try. I personally, I think you should try to be a little bit more balanced and have like right now for four. I think the last about three months, Lola and I have been doing it, trying to make it part of my lifestyle. I don’t eat after 7:00 anymore.

01:03:30:12 – 01:03:31:11
Mickey Schuch
It’s a good thing to do.

01:03:31:11 – 01:03:33:14
Announcer
Yeah, I think some people do need.

01:03:33:23 – 01:03:59:06
Mickey Schuch
Some people do need a serious reset in life. I’ve needed a serious reset in my own life, not, not on weight, but other things. I think sometimes you need to do, like, hard stop. What the fuck am I doing? And not everybody is like that, right? Not everybody you’re made you made a small change that may make a big impact over the long run.

01:04:00:02 – 01:04:23:18
Mickey Schuch
Let me show you this. So in our classes, sometimes we shoot t shirts, we shoot the t shirts because the t shirt is not a cardboard target, right? It allows us to visualize our site or our date on something that would look like. What somebody be wearing makes sense. And so in, in 2019, I had a dude come to a class and he great dude.

01:04:23:26 – 01:04:53:19
Mickey Schuch
He was pretty heavy. And that was November of 20, 19. He weighed £225 and exactly 13 months later, 20, 20, December of 20, 20, he showed up to my class, he weighed £151 so he way he would comes up to me, he went to 225.

01:04:53:28 – 01:04:54:09
Hank Strange (Host)
To one.

01:04:54:09 – 01:05:01:29
Mickey Schuch
151. Oh wow. Yeah. 151. Awesome. So he shows up. So what does that £74.

01:05:02:04 – 01:05:03:24
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Sounds like that. Yeah. Wow.

01:05:04:09 – 01:05:05:12
Mickey Schuch
So he’s like hey I want to in.

01:05:05:12 – 01:05:06:27
Hank Strange (Host)
A year and three months. Yeah.

01:05:07:09 – 01:05:22:27
Mickey Schuch
13 months. He goes I want to shoot this shirt. And I go OK Mike, I don’t give a shit what shirt you, you shoot and he goes, but their significance, he goes, this is the shirt I wore in class last year. Wow. And you know, whatever, it’s just the shirt. But you see the bullet holes in it. Kind of seem.

01:05:23:02 – 01:05:23:17
Hank Strange (Host)
Nice.

01:05:23:17 – 01:05:26:21
Mickey Schuch
So kind of.

01:05:28:09 – 01:05:36:07
Hank Strange (Host)
We lost your mic there for a second. I don’t know if you can hear me. Your mike’s gone. Oh, yeah? You OK? You’re there. You’re back. I think you hit me by accident.

01:05:36:12 – 01:05:39:05
Mickey Schuch
You know, you’re out. What’s the last thing you heard me say?

01:05:39:20 – 01:05:40:07
Hank Strange (Host)
You lifted.

01:05:40:17 – 01:05:40:20
Announcer
It.

01:05:40:29 – 01:05:45:04
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, you lifted the shirt. OK, that was the last thing.

01:05:45:07 – 01:06:08:07
Mickey Schuch
This was kind of a metaphor for life. He shot the man. He was a not you know, he’s not trying to hurt himself. This kid’s ripped now. Like, he was, like, ripped. You covered in arms and stuff, but his he had some relationship issues. He had some work related issues. And this kid, like, revamped his life, not because of Kerry Traynor or my brand, but because of himself.

01:06:08:24 – 01:06:20:03
Mickey Schuch
And he got serious about his health. He got serious. One of the things we talk about is don’t just be a good rescuer, but be able and capable of being rescued.

01:06:20:25 – 01:06:21:21
Announcer
How many people can.

01:06:22:00 – 01:06:42:23
Mickey Schuch
Be a lot easier to move? £151 man versus a £225. He’s fairly short in stature. So if you heard that and thought, ooh, now he’s too skinny, I think he’s only like five foot three or something. So he’s kind of a shorter do. But I got to do that. Lost over £100 and I’m not like a fitness guru.

01:06:43:04 – 01:07:09:14
Mickey Schuch
But what happens is guys are exposed to this concept again, not that it’s my stuff or just I don’t like to allow people to maybe think a little bit and suppress the macho nonsense. Nobody wants to be overweight. Nobody, nobody ever wants to be overweight. Nobody says, I want to be overweight. Right? We come up with that to go off on a tangent, but we come up with reasons or ways to sideline.

01:07:10:07 – 01:07:29:28
Mickey Schuch
And if we’re serious about protecting ourself and we’ve got all these things right that we’re going to the range with where we’re going through the discomfort of shoving it in our pants, we’re buying belts and all this stuff if we want to do that because we want to live and really want to live, then you should make your heart healthy and your brain health.

01:07:30:09 – 01:07:51:19
Mickey Schuch
Now, let’s even go a little deeper. Are you getting seven to 8 hours of sleep a night? Are you freaking drinking too much alcohol? Are you drinking too much soda? What is your diet? Let’s take in. I, I, I’m not trying to like get self-help, but it’s true. If your goal is to live a long, full life, then don’t just talk to me about the gun.

01:07:51:25 – 01:07:53:27
Mickey Schuch
Because that’s bullshit.

01:07:54:11 – 01:08:15:27
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. No, I think I agree with you, you know, and I, I don’t think it’s exactly what you were saying earlier, but when you were talking about, I think when we were talking about how, you know, people create these fantasies around folks in the military I was thinking about how a lot of people get intimidated by what we’re talking about here.

01:08:15:27 – 01:08:32:07
Hank Strange (Host)
Right? And they look at this stuff and they look at training. Maybe they are overweight. I definitely would consider myself overweight. Everyone’s a different a different things with that. But there’s folks who get intimidated by it and say, well, I’m not going to do this. You know, I don’t want to go out there and get embarrassed or whatever it is.

01:08:32:15 – 01:08:49:01
Hank Strange (Host)
But, you know, once you get out there and you start thinking about these things like, hey, I do want to survive, you know, not just not just defend yourself. You want to know how to be able to live in a way that helps you survive in the world no matter what comes at you. And then you get out there.

01:08:49:01 – 01:09:03:22
Hank Strange (Host)
And if you are overweight and you realize, man, I couldn’t run up and down and do all of these things like other folks, maybe I need to get better if it doesn’t, you know, if it doesn’t intimidate you so much that you run away from it, you realize, OK, I’ll just work on me and get better doing this, you know?

01:09:03:27 – 01:09:22:24
Hank Strange (Host)
And I think sometimes this is what happens. Like, we always run this risk that we’re intimidating people away from what we’re doing. So you want to motivate people and these things kind of all the things I think that goes along with the gun world branches out into more responsibility and all of that kind of stuff in folks lives.

01:09:23:27 – 01:09:50:13
Mickey Schuch
I would agree with that. It can. I think if you’re open to it, it can. I think it’s really easy a youth, I think, allows us a lot of hubris. Right? I’m in my mid-forties now, so I think I’m still fairly young, but my body already in many ways doesn’t do certain things. I want it to I’m still quite fit and capable compared to most men my age, probably more so than other men.

01:09:50:20 – 01:10:12:00
Mickey Schuch
But it requires me more work, more perseverance and definitely more mindfulness than it did when I was 30 or 20. And that’s just the nature of things, right? So it’s a choice. We have choices and I choose what I eat. I choose what I think about I choose what I watch, I choose what I read. We all do.

01:10:12:17 – 01:10:29:01
Mickey Schuch
I choose who I’m friends with. I choose what I do in my free time. I choose when I get up. I’m going to be a sack of shit. Or I’m going to go straight up and down the street for 10 minutes or something as simple as do air squats while I brush my teeth or do push ups while the coffee pot is gone.

01:10:29:08 – 01:10:55:15
Mickey Schuch
Instead of sitting on my phone and scrolling Facebook, I can rip out 50 push ups in the time that the coffee is gone or that the toast is in the toaster. Whatever those are minor choices, just like your choice not to eat after 7:00 and I had a guy recently come to a course, I’m not going to say his name once in a while I will have somebody leave a course and they leave for whatever their reasons.

01:10:55:24 – 01:10:57:18
Hank Strange (Host)
You mean they didn’t complete? I’m just trying to.

01:10:57:24 – 01:11:22:21
Mickey Schuch
Say that did not complete the course on his own of his own volition. He wasn’t sent away. He chose to leave. It’s hard. This particular course is our 12 we train over 12 hours a day. We’re up at up at six dinners at six, and then people are up till eight, nine, 10:00 at night. Myself, I’m 14 to 16 hours a day at that event and it’s on purpose.

01:11:23:02 – 01:11:47:15
Mickey Schuch
Well he and it was 90 degrees each day. He, he was not unhealthy, he wasn’t elderly. He decided to leave. But I found out later and if he hears this, I mean no disrespect and that’s why I’m not naming him, but I think he’ll illustrate my point. I got a phone call a few days later from somebody and they just said, hey, that guy, do you remember him?

01:11:47:15 – 01:12:13:01
Mickey Schuch
And I said, Yes, you OK? He didn’t bust his knee or pull a hamstring or something because I didn’t have a chance to talk to him. I just was told that he said that he was leaving and he was new to training. He owned firearms, but he so enjoyed my program that he, in the three days of since being there, had created his own similar training program.

01:12:13:01 – 01:12:30:00
Mickey Schuch
Similar in his mind, not at all similar, but they did some combatives, they did some medical, they did some handgun training. And it was called like Everyday Warrior. He already had a name for it, and he was calling around to find somebody to teach the gun portion. And this person called me to let me know. And I’m like, good for him.

01:12:30:15 – 01:12:53:20
Mickey Schuch
And I’m thinking every day warrior like you’re you’re such in a concept was the guy read me the concept. It was we’re going to teach everyday people that because I’m like, you’re such a warrior. You couldn’t fight through one more day, just one more day. You you packed up your shit and went home to the air conditioning. Yet you are going to ask people to do what you yourself were capable.

01:12:54:03 – 01:13:14:02
Mickey Schuch
So I guess where I’m going with this is these choices make who we are. And if we don’t have the ability to look within and look at ourselves in the mirror as we are not as we not as we want to, but as we are, how the hell can you make good choices to make change? You know, it’s.

01:13:14:18 – 01:13:44:05
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, that’s interesting. Yeah. I was wondering where you were. I was wondering where you were going with that. Yeah. You know, the part about someone not being able to get the instruction but then they want to teach people, you know, I’ve got, I’ve definitely got issues with that. But at the same time, I think if you’re, if you’re doing this, if you’re doing training, especially under certain circumstances, if you feel like you’re not 100% up to it, you don’t have to push yourself and make something worse happen to you.

01:13:44:05 – 01:13:44:24
Hank Strange (Host)
You know what I mean?

01:13:45:11 – 01:14:02:15
Mickey Schuch
And I don’t think that was it. I mean, I can’t speak for him there’s a fine line behind that, too, dude. I mean, there’s a point where, man, I’m John and I don’t jog, but I’m jogging, my stomach hurting. I don’t want to push myself and pull something. And then you fabricate it. You start this tale in your head, right?

01:14:03:02 – 01:14:19:11
Mickey Schuch
Or or I’m going to get on a diet. I hate diet. So I don’t have a diet. I just don’t eat shit. And I eat good food that’s good for me. And I can eat a bunch of it. But I also work out two and a half, 3 hours a day, five, six days a week so I can do that.

01:14:19:11 – 01:14:20:24
Hank Strange (Host)
It’s a weird thing. Yeah.

01:14:21:12 – 01:14:29:11
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. Yes. So you tell you start a tale in your head, though, that like I got a quick story.

01:14:29:29 – 01:14:30:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, absolutely.

01:14:30:23 – 01:15:16:05
Mickey Schuch
So I was deeply involved in politics for years. Personally, I suffered from anxiety. Much of my young life, chronic and acute anxiety, trouble and panic attacks, things of that nature. As a young man, there’s a long story as to why. But the point of this story I suffered from anxiety and brother of mine and my younger brother, Mike and I, who also having anxiety, we both had figured out on our own without medicine or doctors, if we approach certain things in life that scare us or give us up, kind of flip the fear, trigger it helped us grow, and science proves this, psychology proves this.

01:15:16:05 – 01:15:42:00
Mickey Schuch
But we kind of came to it on our own as we were getting older into our twenties. I get involved in politics and now I talk in front of people constantly. But at this point, 12 years ago or something, I needed to just give a short speech in front of a few hundred people. And I remember feeling really nervous and apprehensive about it, even though I knew all these people and in fact I was part of them.

01:15:42:12 – 01:16:10:25
Mickey Schuch
This was when I was part of that political party. I all I needed to do was introduce a candidate, you know, a few platitudes. This is our guy, Hank. He’s going to be awesome. We’re all dressed up nice. I even helped set this event up in some capacity and certain person supposed to go up, then it’s my turn and I see them go up and I thought, I’m going to run to the bathroom real quick, make sure my hair looks good, check my teeth to make sure I don’t have some, you know, spinach from the spinach dip that I’m eating in there.

01:16:11:05 – 01:16:35:27
Mickey Schuch
And by the time I made it to the bathroom, I was in a full blown panic attack, which I wasn’t even feeling anxiety before then. But I worked myself up to it. My programing kicked off the cascade of of cocktails and the horrible, horrible cocktail that caused the panic attack. And I’m looking in the mirror and I start this dialog in my head.

01:16:36:24 – 01:16:57:17
Mickey Schuch
You’re an adult. You’re here of your own volition. You can leave, just text so and so, you know, in my head, text, text Bob, tell Bob you had to leave. You’ll be home in a few minutes. Crack a beer, sit on the deck. It’s a nice afternoon. You don’t need to be with these people. And as I’m telling myself this, I started to relax because I had come up with an alibi that I could.

01:16:57:17 – 01:16:58:25
Announcer
You hang out? Yeah.

01:16:59:00 – 01:17:15:25
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. My keys are in my pocket. I don’t even need to go back to my chair. There’s nothing there. I don’t have a purse. My wife’s not with me. I don’t have a bad a briefcase. I can go right by the door. And in 30 seconds, I concocted this story in my head, and I looked at myself and I said, You son of a bitch.

01:17:15:25 – 01:17:36:03
Mickey Schuch
Like, if you walk out the door, you’re just solidifying your choices to walk away when you’re scared of something. And of course, I. The story ends. I walk out there, and I did the little five minute spiel, and I come back to my chair, and I went to the bar, grabbed a beer sat down at the table with a bunch of friends that are all elected officials.

01:17:36:11 – 01:17:51:19
Mickey Schuch
And I felt fine at that point. And one of the guys was like, Hey, nice job. No, it was nothing. It was like a nothing little speech. Like, Oh, man, did you tell I was nervous? And he’s like, What are you talking about? I was like, I was like, I was like off the charts, like, about ready to poop my pants, vomit.

01:17:52:09 – 01:17:57:02
Hank Strange (Host)
You set yourself up, you set yourself up. Yeah, that’s a weird thing. Yeah, go ahead. Sorry.

01:17:57:14 – 01:18:22:08
Mickey Schuch
What? My point in just bringing that up, like talking about that guy leaving that event or anything that’s hard in life, and this isn’t me patting myself on the back. We choose and we develop these responses. And I had probably developed a pretty good way of coming up with alibis in my life. That when I say alibi, I mean an excuse, a bullshit story to change this.

01:18:22:17 – 01:18:25:23
Mickey Schuch
This. Yeah, this thing going on in my head.

01:18:26:01 – 01:18:26:10
Announcer
Right?

01:18:26:10 – 01:18:36:03
Mickey Schuch
And it and that was one of the first times that I watched it happen, became acutely aware of it. And I just I told myself, f you, you’re not that you’re not going to do this.

01:18:36:10 – 01:18:36:19
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah.

01:18:36:24 – 01:18:47:16
Mickey Schuch
And that’s I don’t know if that’s what that guy did. I don’t know if it had anything to do with that, but we come up with stories. Oh, you better slow down. So you don’t, you know, you don’t have an issue or, you know, you got it.

01:18:48:00 – 01:19:10:05
Hank Strange (Host)
This there’s so there’s so many variables. And I think like in the training thing, I recently had something like that. I went to do there was a training thing that I actually went to do in Kansas with Tonto. You know, he was doing a class. Yeah. And when I when I went out there, I kind of went there a couple like maybe a day early or something like that, I think.

01:19:10:05 – 01:19:40:10
Hank Strange (Host)
Right. And there were these there were these green beret guys there. So the guys decided to do a crash course like Special Operations thing or whatever. That went all day, you know, so all day up until I think like a I think we were doing that thing up until about two, 3:00 in the morning. I was doing that thing and it really beat me up because it was this crash course on, you know, you know, clearing rooms and, you know, all of this kind of stuff.

01:19:40:10 – 01:19:58:22
Hank Strange (Host)
I think at the end of it, I was we were like carrying out a person you know, we did a rescue operation and all this, and that was tough. And I did it. And then right after that, we went right into doing this, this thing with Tonto. And I was out there by myself and not feeling good. And I did most of that thing.

01:19:58:28 – 01:20:14:14
Hank Strange (Host)
And he came up to me, you know, and he was like, you know what, man? If you’re not feeling 100%, the next part that we’re going to do is going to get really, you know, really crazy, right? So you don’t have to you don’t have to make yourself do that. And I feel that same way. I don’t want to quit.

01:20:15:02 – 01:20:30:28
Hank Strange (Host)
I don’t want to quit or give up on something either. But at the same time, I was like, I’m also way out here. I’ve got a whole bunch of things to do. I don’t want to hurt myself and be all out here on my own. And I just manned up and I was like, Hey, I’m not I’m not going to do it.

01:20:30:28 – 01:20:46:21
Hank Strange (Host)
But I also did it walk away from it. I stayed there. I helped load ammo and all that kind of stuff, you know, and went through the thing. I think there is this thing that, you know, we have to do. We have to make ourselves like you did. You’ve got to make yourself go through things if you’re psyching yourself out.

01:20:47:17 – 01:21:08:13
Hank Strange (Host)
Sometimes I also feel like there’s things happening where something might be telling you, Hey, this is not a good idea. Don’t go down this path. I don’t think that’s necessarily what happened with you. But sometimes you also have to know when to say when and then just not not be it. Don’t be embarrassed about it. You know, you don’t necessarily you don’t have to run away or hide or anything like that.

01:21:08:13 – 01:21:13:18
Hank Strange (Host)
You know, you can still be in with people, but you know, you don’t have to take yourself out either.

01:21:14:11 – 01:21:45:01
Mickey Schuch
Only, only a fool. Yeah, I’ve done some mountaineering. I’m not ready to go climb Mount Everest. I can’t I can’t just wheel myself to do that. Right? Yeah. So I. 100% agreed. But this is that like self awareness thing and nobody was asking this guy to do something that was beyond his capabilities. Yeah. Yeah. Ten professional instructors there are also able to look like Chris looked at you and said, Hey man, I see you kind of looking beat up a little bit.

01:21:45:01 – 01:21:52:27
Mickey Schuch
He probably recognized in you that you were looking a little beat up. Yeah, he did the right thing. And, and then you dug deep and pulled it and pulled it out, so.

01:21:52:28 – 01:22:04:26
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, yeah, but it’s great. It’s great. Where were you? What you were saying was crazy. It’s crazy to think that someone went through that situation and then was like, Yeah, I’m going to teach people yeah.

01:22:05:29 – 01:22:07:02
Announcer
I was never of Mark.

01:22:07:02 – 01:22:07:12
Mickey Schuch
We just.

01:22:07:12 – 01:22:08:04
Announcer
Heard. Yeah.

01:22:08:12 – 01:22:28:01
Hank Strange (Host)
One of the things I always tell folks, like, I’m not I’m not trying to act like I know everything if anything, I rather act like I don’t know, you know, but I try to do my best and I don’t hide, like my mistakes and things like that, you know? But to try to teach people things when you yourself don’t know that thing, that’s crazy, I think.

01:22:29:04 – 01:22:29:15
Announcer
Yeah.

01:22:29:28 – 01:22:37:28
Hank Strange (Host)
That’s a dangerous and there’s a lot there’s a lot of folks out there doing that, you know, it’s like being guns. Yeah. It’s like being a self-help.

01:22:37:28 – 01:22:42:18
Announcer
Guru, but you can’t help yourself you know.

01:22:42:24 – 01:22:49:22
Mickey Schuch
Like you just heard from a friend of mine about a girl that he knows that just got like a certificate in life coaching.

01:22:49:22 – 01:22:51:19
Announcer
And she goes, Yeah.

01:22:52:07 – 01:23:17:26
Hank Strange (Host)
We’re going to take a break here. I see this one. We’ll be right back. We wouldn’t be able to keep the Who move my Freedom podcast going without the support of a Dow or decentralize autonomous organization like Tusk. Crypto Tusk Cryptocurrency is a firearm friendly e-commerce option for online payment transactions secured on the blockchain. So when you’re in the crypto market, please consider Tusk to USC.

01:23:18:28 – 01:23:34:29
Hank Strange (Host)
All right, so we’re back here. I think, you know, this is this is kind of fun, man. So what kind of stuff to you? I don’t know if you have any questions or anything like that for me, we do have folks out here in the audience that seem to be having a good time. I don’t I would have to scroll up to see if there’s any particular questions.

01:23:35:06 – 01:23:44:00
Hank Strange (Host)
But you know what other so other you do training, right? You’re in the gun world. Do you do any carpentry stuff anymore, man?

01:23:44:04 – 01:24:32:22
Mickey Schuch
You know, I mean, just for fun and I’m not above it by any means. I from the time I was a single digit kid, I was pounding nails into things and humping lumber for guys. So. Well, I respect the heck out of the men and women that that work with their hands. Farmers, gardeners, sailors, pipefitters, whoever I used to a lot of my businesses, we did a lot of grant work or construction, and it ended up getting me is part of what kind of got me involved in politics because I realize some of the processes through this I, I presented to the state board of Education it’s probably like in 2000.

01:24:33:00 – 01:24:34:05
Announcer
Eight maybe.

01:24:35:00 – 01:24:59:21
Mickey Schuch
My, of my Illinois State Department of education and the reason that we did this is we were kind of pissed off that most of the schools had no trades programs anymore. Every school teacher, every counselor every professor, every dean principal told kids, you got to go to college. I stand here, sit here, I’ve got some college coursework I’m an EMT.

01:24:59:21 – 01:25:19:16
Mickey Schuch
I’ve gone through the EMT program a few times at the college in my community. I’ve done some, you know, little, little stuff. I’ve never gone to university or I and I have no degrees and I manage to own multiple businesses and life. I managed to sit on the board of a preside over a large, not for profit. I managed to become the vice chair of a political party.

01:25:19:22 – 01:25:42:19
Mickey Schuch
I managed to run campaigns in and sit in a room where five governors ask me questions like, you know, I was pissed like why are we screwing our kids? And now today we’ve got every construction person I know is trying to find young people to learn the trade so they can populate the business. So that was a big problem.

01:25:42:19 – 01:25:56:04
Mickey Schuch
I had the one. I was burnt out on it. But the other side of the equation, all the men that worked with me were old enough to be my uncles or father. And most of those guys are sitting fishing somewhere now.

01:25:57:07 – 01:26:03:23
Hank Strange (Host)
So what do you is there like, is there something that you do like to do that is like a hobby or, you know.

01:26:04:28 – 01:26:05:16
Mickey Schuch
Dick jokes?

01:26:06:08 – 01:26:10:01
Announcer
I think I mean, if you want to be a comedian, you want to be a comedian.

01:26:10:25 – 01:26:34:09
Mickey Schuch
I cook, you know what I mean? Like my wife and I, we travel a lot. So I travel. I’m in like anywhere from 2240 states a year working. And what we try to do, I never work just to work. I wake up, I’m grateful for for each day of living. And so as I travel around this nation, I probably the number one thing I do for fun is study our history.

01:26:34:19 – 01:26:34:26
Announcer
OK?

01:26:34:26 – 01:27:04:05
Mickey Schuch
I’ve seen most of the great national landmarks visited, then most of the great national and state parks. I’ve been to most of the great Civil War and revolutionary war battlefields. And something I worked on for years is I visited and said thank you at the graves of most of our 56 signers of our declaration. So that’s something that moves me deeply visiting these places.

01:27:04:27 – 01:27:16:18
Mickey Schuch
So that’s probably something I would say is something I find great enjoyment and peace. Yeah, yeah. I dig that.

01:27:17:11 – 01:27:26:12
Hank Strange (Host)
You know, something that came to mind, you know. Would you ever consider running for office? I know you said you were involved in politics before. Did you hold like office?

01:27:27:22 – 01:27:29:12
Mickey Schuch
No, not interested in that.

01:27:29:18 – 01:27:29:27
Announcer
OK.

01:27:30:17 – 01:28:09:09
Mickey Schuch
For a couple of perspectives, I don’t play well with others. I think that my talents in that arena are our best. Could I? Yeah, would I win? Maybe. What? I’d be good at it. Maybe I would rather help people like my wife is suited to a nine to five. She would hate me saying that, but she. She recently hung it up after 20, 21 years at the same office that she went from like the lowest job there to like third in line to the CEO.

01:28:09:09 – 01:28:19:08
Mickey Schuch
She was a director there for herself through college. She’s a hard working lady. I am not that guy that shows up in like does the grind. I work very hard.

01:28:19:08 – 01:28:29:03
Hank Strange (Host)
But I mean, I think you have I think you have all the skills like I don’t think the necessarily, you know, the like those don’t work well with others. Thing is necessarily.

01:28:29:03 – 01:28:34:21
Mickey Schuch
What I mean. What I mean by that is like I don’t go to offices and like, yeah.

01:28:34:21 – 01:28:37:25
Hank Strange (Host)
You tell you tell some politician to go fuck themselves. Probably.

01:28:37:27 – 01:28:41:02
Mickey Schuch
I have literally told many politicians to go fuck them.

01:28:41:02 – 01:28:44:03
Announcer
So that’s good, man. We need that.

01:28:44:03 – 01:29:09:25
Mickey Schuch
I, I was in a, I was at a wedding a one time a few years ago and I’m talking to this probably 60 ish lady very pretty nicely dressed at the wedding and she’s asking me what I do. We’re both sipping on a drink and I have this whole stupid spiel. I tell people how I’m an exotic dancer traveling around, how I teach men to interpret themselves through the movement of their hips.

01:29:10:02 – 01:29:15:08
Mickey Schuch
So I’m going on and on and on and she just, she loves it. She’s all about it. I don’t know who this lady is.

01:29:15:15 – 01:29:16:16
Announcer
Right over.

01:29:16:24 – 01:29:33:18
Mickey Schuch
60 ish. Look in Silver Fox, well dressed. You know, a suit probably cost more than my truck. And she’s like, Oh, you got to tell my husband what to do. So I start telling him this story, and I’m just like, straight faced for drinking my beer. My wife standing there like, you’re an idiot. And I go, What do you guys do?

01:29:34:20 – 01:29:43:16
Mickey Schuch
She’s a she was an appellate judge and he was a state Supreme Court justice. And I remember looking just like.

01:29:43:27 – 01:29:45:06
Announcer
Yeah, yeah, you.

01:29:45:06 – 01:30:14:08
Mickey Schuch
Know, but then later later we talked, and she just thought it was hilarious because usually they’re used to people just you know, stroke down and not being themselves. So would I run? I’m not interested. I have been very successful at helping others. So if somebody is listening to you that’s running for office, I will volunteer our resources and abilities to help direct people on how to do that.

01:30:14:21 – 01:30:25:26
Mickey Schuch
I feel right now what I’m doing is the highest use of my time and energies. I never know what the future holds, though, but. Yeah, yeah. How’s that for an answer?

01:30:25:29 – 01:30:42:29
Hank Strange (Host)
No, that’s a scoop. Yeah. Lola gets mad at me all the time because I tell people, like, people ask me, What do you do? I go, I pull triggers. Yeah. I say, Oh, I’m a hit man or say something stupid, you know, because most people like, you know, like if you say YouTuber, well, first of all, I started as a YouTuber.

01:30:42:29 – 01:30:51:15
Hank Strange (Host)
I think I started back in like 2013 or something. And if you said you’re a YouTuber, people were like, So you’re just lazy. You just don’t want to do anything, do you?

01:30:52:02 – 01:30:52:24
Announcer
You don’t want.

01:30:53:00 – 01:31:11:14
Hank Strange (Host)
And now YouTubers, what? Kids in high school say that that’s what they want to be, right? When they grow up. Yeah. So it always gets complicated you know? And then people older, oh, what do you do? What do you do on YouTube? OK, I shoot guns, then it becomes, becomes a whole thing, which sometimes that gets heated with certain people.

01:31:12:04 – 01:31:14:17
Mickey Schuch
You know? I hear you’re an adult educator.

01:31:15:05 – 01:31:16:16
Hank Strange (Host)
Right? Adult educator.

01:31:18:10 – 01:31:19:08
Announcer
Yeah, I do.

01:31:19:14 – 01:31:36:27
Hank Strange (Host)
I just tell people whatever craziness comes into my head. And then Lola’s like, why do you what do you do that, you know, why do you talk to people like that? But yeah, it’s you know, I’m not I’m not embarrassed of this. It’s just that there’s folks out there that can’t deal. Like, if I was talking to someone, I say, oh, what do you do?

01:31:37:04 – 01:31:43:26
Hank Strange (Host)
And it’s like, oh, I’m part of the anti-gun lobby. I’m not going to start you know, I’m not going to start punching that person or whatever.

01:31:44:00 – 01:31:54:01
Mickey Schuch
I would actually love to sit down with that guy. And I do do that. And I say, Dude, I’m the exact opposite I’m the pro-gun, you know, guy you would hate. Let’s let’s chew the fat.

01:31:54:13 – 01:32:14:00
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Yeah. That’s the thing, you know, so it’s I don’t know, it’s just one of those things. So and then plus, I’m just probably mischievous or something like that, you know, or what Lola calls evil. She said, Lola says when it comes to school, teachers with Mickey will be willing to give teachers firearms training. What do you think about that in light of all the stuff happening?

01:32:14:18 – 01:32:52:08
Mickey Schuch
I have and I will. I mean, if we want to talk for a second down that I definitely have, I definitely will continue to train anybody that’s lawfully able to possess a firearm none of what’s going on. The solution is not new. It’s been known as long as man has sharpened sticks and poke each other. If you go back any civilization, we built forts, we secured set forts, we built cities, we built walls around the cities, basic security that is well known.

01:32:52:08 – 01:33:14:11
Mickey Schuch
The Marine Corps does a great job at it. The Marine Corps, as most of your listeners know, are in charge of embassy security and things like that. We go concentric circles. If we just hardened the school buildings, I gone to schools and talk to civics classes, modern schools that have controls, ingress and egress, the ability to enter and leave the school.

01:33:15:21 – 01:33:40:23
Mickey Schuch
People just are lazy. And they don’t monitor. We joke in my industry, we call it security theater. Most security is theater, meaning it is just there to make you feel a certain way. And most of that only protects or rather stops that just it’s kind of like when you see one of those things that says like hidden camera present, you know, there’s no hidden camera.

01:33:41:04 – 01:33:49:07
Mickey Schuch
It wouldn’t be a sign that said hidden camera. It’s there because it’s $10 sign in there. Hoping to make somebody go, Ooh, I’m not going to graffiti the wall.

01:33:49:15 – 01:34:05:12
Hank Strange (Host)
I used to work in security in that hospital like I was telling you, and we put up a bunch of dummy cameras all over the building, like, literally it was a it’s a weird thing. There were cameras were up so people could see it and think something was being recorded. And then and then secret cameras.

01:34:06:11 – 01:34:07:21
Announcer
And it’s.

01:34:07:22 – 01:34:30:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, it’s a complete joke. So, you know, what’s why do you think that even when this kind of stuff comes up, right? Obviously, folks have all the political things that they’re trying to do and creating new laws. Why is it no one, not even the folks on our side of the aisle. Right. Not even guys who you know, the politicians out there, let’s put it that way.

01:34:30:23 – 01:34:50:24
Hank Strange (Host)
That’s probably a better way to put it. How come even the politicians on our side really aren’t serious about hardening the schools here in Florida, we had the Marjory Stoneman Douglas thing. We had a bunch of gun laws went into effect. To here in Florida. We haven’t even we haven’t even put that that kid on trial yet. You know, let’s.

01:34:50:29 – 01:35:14:12
Mickey Schuch
Talk let’s talk about whose job that is. It’s not the federal fucking government’s job to do anything. Pardon my language. I get heated in the school and my community. We have the 10th Amendment right. It reserves the right of anything that the federal government not in their purview. It’s to the states. Our Constitution was set up for most everything to be sorted out by the states.

01:35:14:12 – 01:35:34:21
Mickey Schuch
Federal government was not intended to do any of that stuff. Franklin Roosevelt comes on the scene, creates this new deal with all this shit that we now have adopted as fact. Whose job is it to harden the school? It’s it’s you. The mom and the dad need to be at the local school board meeting. And I’ve helped people get on school boards as well.

01:35:35:07 – 01:35:56:25
Mickey Schuch
The superintendent, the school board, the deans, the principal, the people that you employ, that you put in charge of the school. It’s you need to figure out how to do that. The concept or this fallacy of, oh, we’ve got all these veterans just employ the veterans. I don’t know one veteran that is combat capable. I don’t know one.

01:35:56:25 – 01:36:18:07
Mickey Schuch
And I know tons of guys, so it can’t be any better. It’s got to be somebody that’s infantry background or something of that nature that understands fighting. I don’t know. One that wants to sit in a frickin school all day with a rifle slung up and then like this constructive people saying, Oh, we sent all this money to the Ukraine.

01:36:18:08 – 01:36:55:13
Mickey Schuch
We brought that here. That’s enough for four SWAT cops at every school. That’s bullshit, because they have no concept of things like, you know, they they break it down into these sophomoric numbers. I’m sorry if I sound heated, but I just hate that people on our side put this shit out there. You’ve got management costs, you have insurance costs, you have taxation, you’ve got really what would happen is you end up maybe putting one police officer in every school for 20 or $30,000 a year, not for 80 grand, because that’s just how it works, not because you need people to manage and actually produce this program.

01:36:55:22 – 01:37:13:27
Hank Strange (Host)
And there are lots of places we already in a lot of places we already have that like sure there’s already at least one, but that one cop would be in. And if even one kid, you know, or one person that wanted to create a lot of damage could do could take that one cop out, you know, it’s a hundred.

01:37:13:27 – 01:37:31:00
Mickey Schuch
Percent not to mention you think of an average school school my kids went to it take you 10 minutes to go from one side of the school to the other end of run. So one person it’s just like when you worked at the hospital you probably had more than you there because you can’t cover the whole building so.

01:37:31:08 – 01:37:34:22
Hank Strange (Host)
Or multiple buildings which a lot of multiple days. Yeah.

01:37:35:04 – 01:37:57:16
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. So I think too often we look at these things and we’re trying to find like some plug and play answer. Safety’s not a plug in play the next thing you know, we’re going to see if guns become illegal. You will see people using vehicles much more often to just slam into a building, take your car at 80 miles an hour and slam into a building.

01:37:57:16 – 01:38:27:01
Mickey Schuch
You’re going to kill people. And that kind of stuff is done and has been done many times. We have multiple problems here, parents. We have access to firearms. That shouldn’t be if you own a gun, it’s your job to keep that gun out of the hands of somebody that shouldn’t have it. So if you’ve got some asshole teenager in your house that’s got motor in his heart, he will not only love them enough to get them help, but love them enough.

01:38:27:01 – 01:38:30:02
Announcer
Pay attention to them. Yeah, exactly, exactly.

01:38:30:18 – 01:38:32:22
Hank Strange (Host)
It’s on it is on you. It is on you.

01:38:34:01 – 01:38:50:24
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. So yeah, I think the teachers I think there’s some teachers I don’t want to I don’t I don’t think it should be required for a teacher to have a gun. I think if there’s some teacher that’s willing to go through, here’s the thing. People think some policemen in the school. I train cops all the time. Sorry, folks.

01:38:51:06 – 01:39:21:22
Mickey Schuch
Most of the students that I train, not because they’re Mickey students, but because people that train with guns on the regular the average armed citizen that goes to a class for somebody like Chris that you brought up or one of my friends is 100 times more skilled in weapons crap than most police officers. If that pisses a cop off, that’s on line or watching that cop is not being honest because most police officers across this country shoot about 100 rounds a year.

01:39:22:01 – 01:39:42:19
Mickey Schuch
Yeah, that’s not that’s not the cop’s fault. That’s not the police chief’s fault. That’s we the people’s fault. Because we have turned law enforcement into health care workers. We’ve turned them into social workers. We’ve turned them into cabinetry collectors. We’ve got bodies that tell me that people call I’m 11 because their kids won’t put their shoes on and go to the bus.

01:39:42:19 – 01:40:06:18
Mickey Schuch
No shit. 911 What’s your emergency? My son will not put his shoes on and go to the bus. He’s not listening like y y when I was a kid, if you push 911 and it wasn’t an emergency, you better be serious. Yeah, I thought I was getting in really bad trouble, right? So we, the people have created this situation where the cops aren’t trained in what we want them to be trained for.

01:40:06:26 – 01:40:26:19
Mickey Schuch
We’re hiring police people, men and women that are not good at doing rough shit. We hire people based on their credit score and their ability to show up to work on time, which is important in some capacity. But when it comes down to it, we expect these people to rush into danger and to do really bad shit to bad people.

01:40:27:01 – 01:40:35:16
Mickey Schuch
Well, I need to hire somebody that’s got the aptitude and the desire in a sense to be willing to punch people in the face and get punched.

01:40:35:28 – 01:40:40:16
Hank Strange (Host)
So even, you know, I mean, not to interrupt you, forgive me for that, but.

01:40:40:16 – 01:40:42:09
Mickey Schuch
Please, I’m jaw jacking on, you.

01:40:42:22 – 01:41:05:13
Hank Strange (Host)
Know, man. No, this is you know, I think it’s a good conversation, but even like for me, you know, personally, I live out in the country, right? And, you know, we’ve got we’ve got a sheriff and deputies and stuff like that. And I actually went to do some stuff. One of my friends, his dad was a SWAT team leader, and he came out here and he volunteered to teach my my deputies.

01:41:05:13 – 01:41:16:16
Hank Strange (Host)
And I went out there to meet him and be part and, you know, sit in on the class and stuff. My, my deputies the ones that had a Rs either didn’t have the right optics on it or didn’t have.

01:41:16:16 – 01:41:18:06
Mickey Schuch
Them sound backwards.

01:41:18:11 – 01:41:38:00
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, man. They, you know, they didn’t have it sited in at the right distance. It was so crazy. And this is this is what’s happening. Now, flip that over to New York City, for example. How many places are there in New York City that police officers could even go shoot? I don’t think people have not even really even thought about that.

01:41:38:00 – 01:41:58:04
Hank Strange (Host)
I think there’s one or two maybe in New York City. There’s no way all the police officers in New York City are going to get the time they need behind the gun to do training or even target practice. Right it’s just there’s weird stuff going on. And we on all sides, people just don’t want to face what it will actually take to do it.

01:41:59:04 – 01:42:30:26
Mickey Schuch
The I think the big issue is who we hire. Check this out. I just thought of this. I have this quote in one of our course curriculums in our rifle class the great body of our citizens shoot less. As time goes on. We should encourage rifle practice among school boys and among in all classes as well as in the military services by every means of our power thus and not otherwise, maybe be able to assist and preserving peace in the world.

01:42:31:06 – 01:42:50:04
Mickey Schuch
The first step in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come as to teach men to shoot that wasn’t recently. That was Teddy Roosevelt said that after the Spanish-American War. So, like, even when we have we have Greg.

01:42:50:14 – 01:42:53:23
Hank Strange (Host)
You know, you’re good. You got like 25 seconds, go.

01:42:53:29 – 01:43:10:27
Mickey Schuch
We have bred that out of our society and that’s Dad’s and Mom’s doing that. We’re no longer a class of citizen soldiers. That that’s something I aim to change in my sphere of control and who listens to my little thing, right?

01:43:11:08 – 01:43:46:19
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, absolutely. I agree. We’re going to take a quick break. We’re going to be right back here. I have some some stuff I want to add. The Who Moved. 01:44:02:00 – 01:44:02:08
Announcer
Yeah.

01:44:02:25 – 01:44:05:18
Hank Strange (Host)
You know, if you seek peace, prepare for war.

01:44:06:11 – 01:44:06:21
Announcer
Right?

01:44:07:25 – 01:44:08:16
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. 100.

01:44:08:16 – 01:44:34:22
Mickey Schuch
Percent. I think there’s a lot of, like, cute isms like that. Like an arms arm. Society’s a police state, OK? Go, go look at Brazil because that’s an armed society and you see some horrific street crimes that are on the daily or Mexico so I think we can’t always be so simplistic. We need to teach children to look at what’s going on in Chicago.

01:44:35:05 – 01:44:53:24
Mickey Schuch
I’ve got a buddy that’s up in one of the suburbs, but he’s on a major crimes task force, so they deal with a lot of game crimes. Our state just passed a ghost gun ban. Friends of mine are the owners at Polymer 80. Their guns are now illegal will be when the law goes into effect in the state of Illinois.

01:44:53:24 – 01:45:25:22
Mickey Schuch
So uncivilized like 80% pistol rifles there is a scourge. He sends me pictures of them taking these things off the streets and a lot of guys that are like us think oh this law sucks because they would never use these guns for these crimes. Nor do they see how often that they’re used but the inner city gang violence going on in America, it makes the the horrible things that have happened in schools look like a drop in the bucket.

01:45:25:26 – 01:45:35:06
Mickey Schuch
The amount of bloodshed that happens. I mean, just look at every year how many hundreds of people are murdered in Chicago. With gangs?

01:45:35:09 – 01:45:35:24
Announcer
Yeah, I.

01:45:35:24 – 01:45:57:01
Hank Strange (Host)
Don’t you know what? I don’t doubt that there’s things like polymer aids being used in crimes. I don’t doubt it because I think at the end of the day, criminals are very enterprising. Right. So even if we I’m I’m against that. I’m against it being banned, though. The thing is, even if we ban it, the genie is already out of the bottle.

01:45:57:01 – 01:46:06:25
Hank Strange (Host)
These guys are going to come up with ways of doing things. Right. So then what do you do about it? Well, when you find this, you need to actually prosecute people, you know.

01:46:06:25 – 01:46:07:07
Mickey Schuch
And then.

01:46:07:19 – 01:46:24:22
Hank Strange (Host)
You need to actually go after these guys. I agree with you. We do have a gang problem, right? In America. In lots of places. But in those same places, the politicians there, whoever they are, are not willing to actually go after people and put these people away and keep them away.

01:46:25:03 – 01:46:44:25
Mickey Schuch
You know, which is we the people problem. Again, who voted in the states attorney, right. Letting these dirtbags go. I mean, I know a guy out here in our area that is very fond of finding these massage parlors where they’re giving dudes a little rub and tug and they put it all over the Internet like it’s sex trafficking.

01:46:44:25 – 01:47:00:23
Mickey Schuch
It’s not. It’s some lady that’s trying to pay her rent and she’s doing shit. She shouldn’t get a massage parlor. And then then they’re slapping guys on the wrist for like some of these major crimes. And it’s like, how is this analogy or.

01:47:01:05 – 01:47:02:18
Announcer
Us a happy ending? Yeah.

01:47:02:24 – 01:47:05:27
Hank Strange (Host)
Happy ending. That’s saving the world, in my opinion, to be honest.

01:47:05:27 – 01:47:25:17
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. All the all the guys that have gotten locked up for weed. I don’t smoke weed. I don’t care if somebody smokes weed. I think liberty. I’m a liberty minded person. The amount of taxes that everybody that argues legalize it and tax it, I say, fuck you. Legalize it and don’t tax it. Just like alcohol is so taxed.

01:47:25:24 – 01:47:41:17
Mickey Schuch
It’s it’s it’s incredible. But we fill our jails full of people that sell dope, weed, and then we are letting guys out that have committed violent felonies. It doesn’t doesn’t make sense.

01:47:41:19 – 01:47:43:06
Announcer
No. We know that doing anything about it.

01:47:43:20 – 01:48:06:24
Mickey Schuch
We’re not there. So I know that there’s a lot of bad people that are in jail, but there’s also a lot of people that should be locked up that are not and they’re not it’s not the cops ball either because I know tons of cops that are out there trying to pick these guys up and they say, I see the same guy three weeks later, and they’re like, why is this person back out on the street and picked him up for two or three felony charges.

01:48:07:03 – 01:48:07:14
Mickey Schuch
Yeah.

01:48:08:02 – 01:48:27:28
Hank Strange (Host)
Why? And we do see this all the time. It’s it’s just a really weird thing, man. There’s so many cases where you see that, hey, this you caught this guy out there with a gun. Forget about it. 80% are right. But I don’t doubt that it happens. I believe you that it happens, right? If you caught this guy with a gun committing a crime.

01:48:28:27 – 01:48:29:20
Announcer
What’s up?

01:48:30:02 – 01:48:56:16
Hank Strange (Host)
Why is the why is he back on the streets with everyone else? And why is all of a sudden the solution to that is to make it more difficult to layer more laws on top of people in America that are actually law abiding and follow the laws? I mean, I would say in America, man, we have a mega crap ton of laws when it comes to firearms and that that on its own is not solving anything or stopping anything.

01:48:56:16 – 01:48:56:26
Hank Strange (Host)
Right?

01:48:57:03 – 01:49:25:18
Mickey Schuch
So I think we’ve got a real moral issue we are a law enforcement officer. Officers shoot a felon, felons got a funeral the dead felon, deceased felon has got his funeral underway. And like a gang and a rival gang drove up and shot the heck out of a funeral like the family that’s out there burying this deceased person.

01:49:26:04 – 01:49:56:15
Mickey Schuch
And if the media pitched it as in like it was like somehow the police had something to do with it. Or that it was the guns. Like nobody said a gang member got shot by police during the commission of a crime. And that sentence next sentence while being buried, rival gang comes up and illegally, criminally just starts spraying a cemetery full of bullets, like instead of just saying it like it was, it’s like guns are bad, cops killed.

01:49:56:15 – 01:50:05:19
Mickey Schuch
So like that was the story. Like, wait up. Wait a minute here. We got like a real problem with the truth. And with just shoot, shoot straight.

01:50:05:25 – 01:50:28:19
Hank Strange (Host)
Well, that’s the narrative nowadays. You know, I think we we tend to do these massive swings in directions, right? So I think that for sure, there’s been times in America when you’ve had, you know, people that abuse their powers or their whatever it is as police officers right. We’ve had that. We have we’ve had police officers be criminals, do all kinds of things.

01:50:28:27 – 01:50:30:27
Mickey Schuch
But what I always will to.

01:50:31:03 – 01:50:53:26
Hank Strange (Host)
Yes. And what I say about that is do the same thing I’m saying here. If you know, a police officer is bad and they’re doing something bad, they need to be severely punished. Right. No one should become a police officer thinking they’re going to get away with that. But we’re letting those guys get away with it. And it’s the same thing that we’re doing with criminals, because you don’t want to you don’t want to aggressively go after the criminals either.

01:50:54:06 – 01:51:15:20
Hank Strange (Host)
But at the end of the day, if you really care about the people, the law abiding people in your state, your city, your town or whatever it is, most of the people that fall into that category, most people just want to have their job, you know, take care of their family. And and and try to better themselves and their family and do things.

01:51:15:28 – 01:51:30:11
Hank Strange (Host)
When you layer laws on top of stuff, that’s who you go after. And then at the end of the day, the criminals just keep doing whatever they’re doing and no one goes after them. At some point, you have to go after them and run the risk that some of them say, oh, police violence, you know, you’re killing these people.

01:51:30:17 – 01:51:32:04
Hank Strange (Host)
Those people are killing people.

01:51:32:22 – 01:52:09:01
Mickey Schuch
Well, they did do that. Los Angeles did it. I mean, Los Angeles had a bad ass unit. The special investigation unit the LAPD had. These guys were like studs that went out and hunted bad men. New York, NYPD had it. Jim Cirillo made up their their task force back in the sixties and seventies era when they had these crazy crime sprees happening where stores were being held up on the regular and they literally became hunters like these units of like talk men, all expert marksman.

01:52:09:06 – 01:52:29:16
Mickey Schuch
And they were a lot of them veterans. And they took those skills and just cities. The cities became like Gotham. I think it’s important people study these stories, look up L.A. And look up new york, chicago, have them as well. And they began to hunt these men rapidly because the public started going to mayors and city councils and saying enough’s enough.

01:52:30:05 – 01:52:53:06
Mickey Schuch
We got to do something about it. Portland, Oregon. There’s a story in Portland in the 1980s, a gang goes and gets in a gunfight with a group of like 15 army rangers that were stationed up there. Second battalion rangers guys got a house in Portland and there’s a picnic on way the police would do nothing this is during the crack epidemic and this guy’s trying to keep his neighborhood clean.

01:52:53:15 – 01:52:56:05
Hank Strange (Host)
I think there’s a video there’s a video about this out there a.

01:52:56:05 – 01:53:23:17
Mickey Schuch
Very famous story. But like people don’t think about that this crime shit has ebbed and flowed. And I think what’s happened is now we’ve got a spotlight and a microscope on it. We’ve got the spotlight because everybody’s paying attention to these mass murder scenarios where psychos are going in and shooting up schools, churches, grocery stores, et cetera, while they are happening on the regular.

01:53:23:18 – 01:53:42:00
Mickey Schuch
It’s still a tiny fraction of the murders going on in the world, going on in our country as well, not diminishing them in any way, shape or form, but because we’re paying attention to it, it’s kind of like trying to find a tick on your door. It’s a little tiny thing, but you’re looking really hard for it, right?

01:53:42:08 – 01:54:04:02
Mickey Schuch
Or that you’re at the dock trying to find a mole on you. They’re looking for it. They got the lights. They know what they’re looking for. And because of that, as in with social media, the stuff is just blasted. So we feel like and again, not diminish it. We feel like it’s happening every 5 seconds. We feel like the world’s full of psychos trying to murder people.

01:54:04:10 – 01:54:23:00
Mickey Schuch
And by and large, most people you said it earlier, I think are pretty good. I think most people want to help somebody change it tire. I think most people want to hold the door for an old lady. I think most people want to say please and thank you and do the right thing. I really do. I think we’ve just kind of lost our way.

01:54:23:10 – 01:54:51:16
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, for sure. There’s a there’s this magnifier on the the broken, crazy, twisted evil people, but there’s there’s there’s not really much that we could do about it. I’m not saying we can’t do things about it, but there’s not really much. And the reason why it seems to everyone that it’s getting worse and worse, I think that a lot of times those folks are just put on a bunch of, of drugs that just, just make them even crazier.

01:54:51:24 – 01:55:06:28
Hank Strange (Host)
And eventually you’re going to come across these people and they don’t care however they are going to inflict the worst things on. Other human beings are going to do it. So you see people pushing someone into a subway. You know, a big, massive guy’s beating the living daylights out of an old lady.

01:55:07:22 – 01:55:12:14
Mickey Schuch
Somebody goes into goes into a doctor’s office the other day and kills several people with a knife.

01:55:12:24 – 01:55:35:17
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. You know, or you get just a broken kid who decides to kill all the little tiny children. I mean, you’re not dealing with anyone rational. There’s no way to stop him from, like you said, taking his car or chaining the doors in the school and setting the school on fire or doing anything else crazy, except maybe in that moment, someone is there to fight back against that person.

01:55:35:23 – 01:55:52:08
Hank Strange (Host)
And then maybe we look at what’s happening in the country and why we’re where we think we’re seeing it more and more. I think we’ve always had broken people in society maybe it was easier a long time ago if everyone knew this guy was a nutcase. You know, it was a lot.

01:55:52:09 – 01:55:53:10
Mickey Schuch
There’s a lot more of us.

01:55:53:20 – 01:55:54:07
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, there’s.

01:55:55:07 – 01:55:55:12
Announcer
So.

01:55:55:12 – 01:55:56:07
Mickey Schuch
Many more people.

01:55:56:16 – 01:55:58:19
Announcer
Yeah. So that’s cause I’m.

01:55:58:19 – 01:56:06:23
Mickey Schuch
Not I’m not a scientist, but if it used to be one in a million, well, there’s a lot more millions of people for there to be that one lunatic yeah.

01:56:07:03 – 01:56:24:20
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, yeah. So I think, you know, we, we have to realize at some point to really do something about this layering laws on top of laws are not going to make any difference. If it would have done that, it would have done it in the last 20, 30, 40, 50 years of laws.

01:56:24:21 – 01:56:26:21
Mickey Schuch
These laws can find that just.

01:56:27:17 – 01:56:27:24
Announcer
Mhm.

01:56:28:07 – 01:56:45:18
Mickey Schuch
That’s all that laws. All we can find that. Yes. And then they give us a means of punishing the wicked. That’s it. They never, they don’t stop wicked people as you just said, they, they give us a means to punish them and they, they give the just lines to paint inside. That’s it.

01:56:45:27 – 01:57:12:12
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Absolutely. OK there’s something I do want to talk about before. I know we’ve got, we’ve not got that much time but there’s one of the things that when you were coming on I went to, I was looking at, I was looking at videos, you know, I was YouTube stalking you a little bit and one of your videos came across my radar where you were talking about what happens when you get pulled over and like how to react when you get pulled over by a cop.

01:57:12:12 – 01:57:13:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Do you do you know what I’m talking about?

01:57:14:06 – 01:57:14:26
Mickey Schuch
Of course I do.

01:57:15:04 – 01:57:15:13
Announcer
Yeah.

01:57:15:21 – 01:57:29:12
Hank Strange (Host)
I thought it was great video. I thought it was funny and all that kind of stuff. But I happened to have gotten pulled over myself, and that was like for whatever crazy reason, one of the biggest videos that I put up on my YouTube channel. Um.

01:57:29:24 – 01:57:31:26
Mickey Schuch
What did you film yourself getting pulled over?

01:57:32:02 – 01:57:55:03
Hank Strange (Host)
No. So what happened here is that um, you know, when I got pulled over, the deputies, they had their camera, they had their camera stuff going. But what happened in my story was that I actually, my, my car radar detector was going off like crazy. And I saw about 30 police cars. So I was, I had taken my dad.

01:57:55:03 – 01:58:16:23
Hank Strange (Host)
It was, I think it was like Easter Sunday and had taken my dad to the airport. And I was driving back and I saw all these I was not breaking the speed limit or anything because all the warning things were going off. But what happened is that there is close to where I live every Easter Sunday. There’s a family there that has this big massive barbecue and there are black family.

01:58:16:23 – 01:58:35:16
Hank Strange (Host)
A lot of black people come out to that thing. There’s rappers. It gets really crazy. There’s a lot of people. They rush stores and they create all kinds of problems. So the deputies from that particular department, what they do about it is they pull anyone they see driving through that area that’s black they pulled them over. And that’s what happened to me.

01:58:36:02 – 01:58:38:14
Hank Strange (Host)
And I didn’t realize that because.

01:58:39:00 – 01:58:39:22
Mickey Schuch
Wait, you’re black.

01:58:40:20 – 01:58:58:15
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. You know, among among a lot of things. But what the reason why? Because you asked about how I got the footage. So this thing happened to me, and there’s a friend of mine who was actually in that department, and he told me why. Because I didn’t know why it happened. I didn’t know why they pulled me over.

01:58:58:22 – 01:59:16:27
Hank Strange (Host)
This department makes you get out of your car. Like they had me on my hands on the hood of their car and all that kind of stuff. There’s a whole thing. There’s a video on it. But he said, hey, they did this. This friend of mine that’s white that was in that department said they did this to you because of the color of your skin.

01:59:17:01 – 01:59:33:25
Hank Strange (Host)
And I think you should get that video and show it to people because what they’re doing, I don’t think is right. So that’s why I wound up putting it out there. So that’s how I actually got the footage. I got it from them because that department has to give it to you. He told me he walked me through the whole process.

01:59:34:04 – 01:59:35:12
Hank Strange (Host)
He was like, if you go there, give.

01:59:35:12 – 01:59:36:02
Mickey Schuch
Them the credit.

01:59:36:13 – 01:59:55:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. If you give them the money and say, yes, I want the copy of the video that you guys have on me. And so that’s how I wound up putting it. Up there. And the thing that happened that was really that I wasn’t happy about it. My situation is that the police officer asked me if I if I was armed, which I was armed.

01:59:56:05 – 02:00:01:11
Hank Strange (Host)
I made one of those mistakes in your video because, you know, someone says, are you armed? Do you immediately want to go, yeah.

02:00:02:10 – 02:00:02:20
Announcer
Yeah.

02:00:03:13 – 02:00:23:15
Hank Strange (Host)
I am armed. You make moves or whatever. But so he asked me if I was armed, and then I said, yes. I said, I have a CCW. They insisted on disarming me. And then he went and ran my he took he took the gun from me, ran my CCW. They told him, that guy has a valid CCW.

02:00:23:24 – 02:00:25:16
Announcer
And then he was officer.

02:00:26:01 – 02:00:27:07
Mickey Schuch
Like they cuffed, you.

02:00:27:25 – 02:00:31:18
Hank Strange (Host)
Know, they didn’t cuff me. They had me with my hands on there. Like they have.

02:00:32:00 – 02:00:34:04
Mickey Schuch
Reached into your holster and drew the gun.

02:00:34:04 – 02:00:35:14
Hank Strange (Host)
Yes. Yes.

02:00:35:15 – 02:00:37:15
Mickey Schuch
I had a hard time with that man. Yeah.

02:00:38:03 – 02:00:54:16
Hank Strange (Host)
I wasn’t happy about it. Like they said, Oh, we don’t feel comfortable, even though they all had like body armor and guns I was like, You guys don’t feel comfortable. And I wasn’t, I wasn’t committing. The thing that happened is when I got pulled over, I was in the middle of two other cars, so there was a car in front of me and a car behind me.

02:00:55:05 – 02:01:02:21
Hank Strange (Host)
And the guy that pulled me over, you could see in the video he was on the other side of the road. He had like a young black woman pulled over. And when I went.

02:01:02:21 – 02:01:06:27
Mickey Schuch
Dreaming, previous white people were in front of you. Is that what you say?

02:01:06:27 – 02:01:11:04
Hank Strange (Host)
Yes. Yes. And when I drove by, there were spotters, like there was some cops here.

02:01:11:05 – 02:01:12:03
Mickey Schuch
In this shit hit man.

02:01:12:06 – 02:01:28:05
Hank Strange (Host)
There were some cops in their car. Right. And they were literally spotting like they had, like, binoculars. And when they saw me go by, they called that guy and he left that woman. And turned around and pulled me over and two other cars, one in front and one in back. And then they told him, no, we don’t want you.

02:01:28:05 – 02:01:29:14
Hank Strange (Host)
We want that guy in the middle.

02:01:30:04 – 02:01:32:22
Mickey Schuch
So do you have a dash cam in your car?

02:01:33:18 – 02:01:35:14
Hank Strange (Host)
No, I didn’t at the time. I do now.

02:01:35:15 – 02:01:45:24
Mickey Schuch
Do you I recommend everybody. I mean, for a hundred bucks, you can get a 360 dash cam. I’ve got a friend’s Dan Campbell he owns CCW safe. I’ve been holding their water bottle this whole time.

02:01:45:25 – 02:01:49:16
Hank Strange (Host)
Oh, OK. Let’s see that. Let’s see that again because it was CCW.

02:01:49:16 – 02:02:13:11
Mickey Schuch
Say, I recommend that above all the CCW kind of they’re not an insurance company, but OK, they are for all intents and purposes, you could consider it to be such more of you’re like a member, but like for a cop, the guys that own that company are like the cop stands actually African-American. He created an app. It’s called don’t d o p e and it stands for something.

02:02:13:19 – 02:02:39:27
Mickey Schuch
The app you get pulled over, you turn dope on, dope starts recording audio video. It tells you what to do depending on where you’re at, but it literally walks you through like like in big bullet points, turn on interior lights, put hand on the steering cetera. It also uploads the footage to the cloud. So it’s not just on your phone in case something happened to your phone.

02:02:41:05 – 02:03:01:24
Mickey Schuch
It’s cheap. It’s like a monthly fee, but it’s just not a lot of money at all. And then there’s a bunch of training videos that the program gives you, that one you can practice, which I think you should practice, just like you practice the draw stroke or you practice communicating you. It allows you to.

02:03:03:00 – 02:03:06:19
Announcer
Kind of work through that, you know? Yeah.

02:03:07:12 – 02:03:10:23
Mickey Schuch
You didn’t ask me about that, but that’s what came to mind because a cool program.

02:03:11:03 – 02:03:12:19
Hank Strange (Host)
No, no, that’s no, that’s.

02:03:12:19 – 02:03:16:15
Mickey Schuch
Like is a real time that footage gets stored in the cloud. Yes.

02:03:16:26 – 02:03:17:27
Announcer
I like that. Just got it.

02:03:18:08 – 02:03:41:12
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Things do somehow mysteriously wind up disappearing and we’re going to wind up taking a break in 30 seconds. But when I come back, the funny thing is, is that I posted this stuff and after the guy ran my CCW and they told him that I was good, he still ran the serial numbers off my Glock. So when I posted the video fishing expedition.

02:03:41:19 – 02:04:02:05
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, when I posted the video, the whole department got retrained and they actually stopped doing that. They, you know, they, they got into trouble over that thing. So I’m going to we’re going to take a quick break. We’re going to come back here and wrap that story. We wouldn’t be able to keep the Who move my Freedom podcast going without the support of manufacturers like Safety Harbor Firearms.

02:04:02:12 – 02:04:30:00
Hank Strange (Host)
CHF is a quintessential family owned, small business, totally representative of the American Dream. Safety Harbor Firearms is a Florida based manufacturer of the compact entry stock and 250 upper for an air 15 lower also CHF happily delivers on your stun gun parts needs so don’t forget to check out stent parts dot com and safety harbor firearm I’m Scott.

02:04:30:18 – 02:04:44:18
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah so this is a quick thing you know we don’t have that much time but the quick thing about that is when I put up the video of what happened and explain to people there are a lot of people met like why did you comply with these guys? Why did you let them disarm you when you let them do this?

02:04:44:25 – 02:05:06:06
Hank Strange (Host)
I think I’ve been pulled over a lot. I grew up in New York City. I’ve had cops robbed me I’ve had cops point guns at my heads and all that in my head and all that kind of stuff. But when you see when there’s about 30 cops out there and you get pulled over by seven different vehicles and all that kind of stuff, I think you’re pretty much going to think like, I literally just wanted to get back to my kids.

02:05:06:20 – 02:05:07:20
Announcer
You know, and.

02:05:07:26 – 02:05:22:04
Mickey Schuch
At that point, if you’re involved in that, you did the right thing. Be a good witness, record it because we have all these devices and that’s that’s the last point to make our Alamo stand.

02:05:22:28 – 02:05:23:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, exactly.

02:05:24:15 – 02:05:25:10
Mickey Schuch
What idiots.

02:05:25:22 – 02:05:26:11
Announcer
That. Yeah.

02:05:26:28 – 02:05:30:23
Hank Strange (Host)
Dude, I actually felt, you know, I live here, right? And I felt sorry.

02:05:30:24 – 02:05:31:17
Mickey Schuch
What happened to you?

02:05:32:09 – 02:05:42:20
Hank Strange (Host)
Listen, a lot of my friends are in law enforcement. When they see that video, they get mad. I’ve been all over the country and people see that video. They’re in law enforcement, and they’re like, that’s the craziest thing that I’ve ever seen.

02:05:43:02 – 02:06:04:17
Mickey Schuch
Occasionally I’ve had black folk tell me, you don’t know what it’s like. I’ve been cuffed up, and I was locked for about 3 hours in a police station as like a 20 year old. Like I was 18 being accused of poaching deer I was pulled over, told that I had a warrant for my arrest. I didn’t. And then they said, Oh, it’s for somebody else that drives the same vehicle.

02:06:04:23 – 02:06:22:21
Mickey Schuch
OK, sorry that you’re looking for me. Oh, it’s for your brother. My brother’s deployed with the US Army. It’s not him and my brother’s not registered on this vehicle. Hey, what’s that behind you? It’s a flood lamp. I’m in a big band full of construction equipment. That’s for poaching gear. That’s not what I use it for. So.

02:06:23:00 – 02:06:23:09
Announcer
Yeah.

02:06:23:29 – 02:06:25:15
Mickey Schuch
You know, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

02:06:25:15 – 02:06:26:24
Announcer
Their suspicion sure.

02:06:27:05 – 02:06:39:27
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. Can I see it? Sure. I get it. If the guy, he goes, this is now property of the police department. If you want to come in and talk to the chief, I’m like, you can’t take it. And he’s like, What are you going to do about it? So I go in there the next day, I chief’s like, Take a seat.

02:06:40:01 – 02:06:56:25
Mickey Schuch
I take a seat. He walks behind, grabbed my hands and cuffs me behind the fucking chair, no joke. And then they bring a couple of dudes in and try to shake me down, show me pictures of poached animal approached deer, and they’re like, Did you do this? No, sir. Did you do this? No, sir. Wouldn’t let me call anybody?

02:06:56:25 – 02:07:08:23
Mickey Schuch
So I’ve been in this situation is. Well, yeah, it’s part of me. Part of the reason that I’ve done some of the things with politics that I have. We had a crooked sheriff that we got out of office. And for another sheriff.

02:07:09:12 – 02:07:28:18
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, absolutely. Listen, I, you know, I’ve gone through things or whatever, and I think for sure there’s some racist people out there or whatever. We’re human beings. We’re not all good. There’s some terrible people. But yeah, in my opinion, I think anyone is capable of getting pulled over there are folks who become cops just to be bullies, you know.

02:07:29:13 – 02:07:33:18
Mickey Schuch
Pastors or schoolteachers or head coaches.

02:07:33:27 – 02:07:34:13
Announcer
Yeah. Yeah.

02:07:34:20 – 02:07:54:24
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. When I was looking at your video, I was just it just like brought that whole thing back. I honestly did not want to post that video because I live here and I didn’t want to get into stuff. But at the end of it, I’m glad that I did. And I know that’s why my friend asked me to do it, because he was like, Listen, man, I think what they’re doing is wrong, but I don’t have the ability to fight it.

02:07:55:06 – 02:08:14:04
Hank Strange (Host)
You just went through it. You can actually do something about that. And I think that’s what I did. Yeah, that’s what came out of that. Listen, man, I’ve taken up a lot of your time but I’ve personally enjoyed the conversation. We’ve never met each other. Yeah, we’ve never met before, so hopefully it wasn’t so horrible that you will actually come back here.

02:08:14:22 – 02:08:17:02
Mickey Schuch
Yeah. Oh, I love that. It was a great time to answer so much.

02:08:17:03 – 02:08:28:16
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah, absolutely. Here’s what I do want to do. I want to give you a chance to tell the folks out there, like, how they can, you know, how can they support you? Where are the places they can go to find out more about you?

02:08:29:11 – 02:08:56:01
Mickey Schuch
I appreciate that. A, I would rather rather than talk about myself I would challenge you, the listener to one single thing. So Carey trainers the brand punch that into YouTube, Instagram, Google you’ll find us carry train or intercom something I’m working on that I think is super important is challenging myself. But I’m also going to challenge you. Try it for a week do the right thing, whatever that means to you.

02:08:56:01 – 02:09:12:24
Mickey Schuch
Do the right thing. Take the hard right over the easy lap. We talk about all the stuff that we’ve talked about, like making the world a better place. And if we’re not willing to do it ourself, we can’t expect our neighbor to do it. If we’re not willing to do it ourself, we can’t expect a law to do it if we’re not willing to do it ourself.

02:09:12:24 – 02:09:33:14
Mickey Schuch
We can’t expect our sons and daughters to do it if we’re not willing to do it ourself. We can’t expect our politicians to force others to do it. And the right thing can mean anything from being kind to picking some trash up that you see in the parking lot, to going the extra mile with helping somebody to go the extra mile with helping yourself.

02:09:34:22 – 02:09:46:06
Mickey Schuch
I’ve developed this mantra in my own head. When I start to feel like I don’t want to do something and I yell at myself in a positive way, I say, Do the right thing, motherfucker.

02:09:46:21 – 02:09:47:01
Announcer
You know.

02:09:48:01 – 02:10:03:27
Mickey Schuch
It it snaps me into that headspace. So find me if you want to, but I challenge you to force yourself. Try it for seven days any time. Something comes up that you don’t want to do. You want to eat something that you know you shouldn’t tell yourself. Do the right thing. You want to be lazy instead of exercising.

02:10:03:28 – 02:10:10:13
Mickey Schuch
Tell yourself do the right thing. Your kids want you to read to them and you want to watch TV shut the TV off and do the right thing and read them a book.

02:10:10:24 – 02:10:26:15
Hank Strange (Host)
Awesome. That’s great. Appalachian Gun Runner said it was a great show. Here’s what I’m going to do, though. I’m going to run in the end and I’m actually going to come back and ask Mickey to give us some words of wisdom, which I think he kind of just did. But we’re going to get like more words of wisdom out of here, if that’s OK, Mickey, we’re going to get words.

02:10:26:15 – 02:10:34:25
Hank Strange (Host)
And that’s what the final word is always words of wisdom from our guests. So, yeah, so, you know, if you need to if you need to go look that up real quick.

02:10:35:17 – 02:10:36:28
Announcer
I’m sure you I’m sure you.

02:10:36:28 – 02:10:37:27
Mickey Schuch
Don’t know exactly what I’m.

02:10:37:27 – 02:10:38:13
Announcer
Going to tell you.

02:10:38:18 – 02:10:43:29
Hank Strange (Host)
You don’t have a deficit. I know. I know that for sure that you don’t have a deficit. Let me run in the.

02:10:43:29 – 02:10:44:26
Announcer
End right now.

02:10:45:05 – 02:11:02:17
Hank Strange (Host)
All right, guys, thanks so much for hanging out with us, this great show. We will see you guys back here tomorrow. I think that we’re going to have we’re going to have on Vincent Scheff, a former ATF agent, will be joining us tomorrow. So that should be a good show for you, for you guys, if you want to come back here and watch it.

02:11:02:25 – 02:11:06:22
Hank Strange (Host)
So, OK, words of wisdom. Thank you. What you got?

02:11:08:09 – 02:11:30:08
Mickey Schuch
Don’t be so hard on yourself. I think too often we you know, the thing I just told you a minute ago about trying to do the right thing try is a word for losers. Don’t try just fucking do it. But I think too often we frickin hold ourselves to an impossible standard. We fuck something up, we mess something up, let it go.

02:11:30:23 – 02:11:49:08
Mickey Schuch
I think like we talked about earlier, it’s pretty easy to develop a pattern of making alibis though. You can’t just say like, oh, I fucked up. It’s OK, but you got to let go of what was and drive on like this kid did. I mean, like, if he just always did whatever he always did, this wouldn’t have happened.

02:11:49:08 – 02:11:54:18
Mickey Schuch
Even the lost £74. So don’t be so hard on yourself. Ask yourself.

02:11:55:24 – 02:12:06:09
Hank Strange (Host)
Yeah. Good stuff, man. OK, stay right there. I’m going to press all the buttons to end this. Here we go. Thank you. I got to make sure I press these buttons correctly. You you know, that’s always the toughest part.
